I've read a lot of posts where people are on DHEA Supplements and recently brought the book It Starts With The Egg which highly recommends DHEA Supplements for those with age related fertility issues. I have a low AMH Level, and have just been through an IVF Cycle that unfortunately didn't work out as the eggs didn't make the fertilisation stage. The stims only produces 3-4 follicles and only 1 of those got to a good size and produced a mature egg, a small follicle produce an immature egg which was one more egg that we weren't expecting. But we only had 2 eggs to use that IVF Cycle. We are now looking into trying IVF again and DHEA sounds like it could help?
But I phoned my NHS Fertility Clinic and she immediately said no don't take it, as if this question has been asked quite a few times before.
Is anyone in the UK taking DHEA Supplements to help with there fertility? If so has it helped? And how did you get your dr to approve it and give you a prescription please?
Thank you in advance.

We've had issues with fertilisation, and embryos progressing, and have started our third cycle. We're with a private clinic, who suggested DHEA after these two poor cycles. They did say it was something to try. They cautioned that it may not make any difference. We buy it from them directly. Not sure if it's made a difference yet, but fingers crossed!
I wonder if you're at an NHS clinic, if there is not a lot of evidence of effectiveness then they would be more reluctant to give it to you?
Hi there, I purchase it on the website IHerb without prescription. My clinic then checked my levels of testosterone and DHEA-S to make sure it was working. You want to end up with the levels of the youngest age group (332 mcg/dL).
My (private) clinic suggested and sourced it for me. You can read more about it on this thread I open a while ago (when I wasn't sure whether to take it or not): healthunlocked.com/fertilit... still don't know whether it brought any improvement (just started my 4th fresh cycle), but, in the end, I convinced myself it doesn't harm either!
I’m also on it. I get it shipped from the states. When we were choosing our clinic one clinic said not to take it when I asked about additional supplements and dhea was recommend by ours
I was advised to take CoQ10 and dhea as I have low AMH. I have been taking them since feb, I started IVF now , just had my baseline scan, unfortunately it hasn’t produced more follicles I still have 3, (same as I had on my first round of ivf when I wasn’t taking the supplements) however I’m told they help mainly with quality. I’m due Monday for my next scan to see if any of the follicles have grown. Xx
Hey I used DHEA supplements for my one and only round of ivf. I took it for 3 months before starting any treatment. I got 3 embryos - 1st resulted in my 4 year old and the 3rd and last has resulted in my son. I am a strong believer DHEA worked for me. BIOVEA website is where I got mine from xx
Would love to follow your journey and hear others reply as have been on dhea, melatonin and co q10 for two months and just at the start of my third ivf cycle so we’ll see if it changes my results. I only ever get 2-3 follicles and also have low amh . Xx
My dr recommended it after my first round produced no eggs. It’s a private clinic and they gave me a private prescription. But for the next few rounds I bought from DHEA from biovea from the US ( a lot cheaper ) it’s made such a huge difference for my egg collection and embryo quality. I am 46 so it’s I wonder if it’s an age thing too but I believe it really helps xx
I took dhea ubiquinol pqq etc for 3 mth I did naturally conceive in that time but resulted in another mc (3rd) I was 39. I really felt at the time it was helping but sadly didn’t for egg quality but maybe helped to conceive quicker. I didn’t have tests done I bought off my own back as I felt I needed to at least try. Then we had mc & fertility tests we had no issues they could find except I’ve a low amh, just said mc happened probably just because of my age eggs are older. In the end I conceive at 40 only change was I had lost 3 stone exercised a lot and got a lot of sun vitD I had stopped all supplements.
My nhs clinic in Scotland recommended me to try this after my first icsi round didn't work out. I'm getting it from Coast Science, but the clinic gave me a recommended dosage
