Abnormal cells on cervical smear whilst on Buserelin.

Hi All

Im not really sure where to begin on here, I am feeling so deflated. I am currently waiting to restart drugs for my FET (date not confirmed) after my last implant date was cancelled 3 days before. I am doing IVF PGD due to a genetic condition my husband has. I had my usual cervical screening test and it has come back as abnormal- so I am to have colposcopy soon. I wondered if anyone else has experienced this? I had a look online and a lot of places say cervical changes are quite common when hormonal changes are taking place. Has anyone been through anything similar?

Thanks xx

Hey smartens93, I am really sorry that you had to postpone your FET! I also had abnormal cells on smear and my gynaecologist told me that is very common, I was given an option to wait 6 months and have another smear or do the colposcopy. I did the second one as I didn’t want to postpone my treatment and everything was fine. Best of luck!

Hi, so sorry its so hard when you think you are ready to go and then hit another roadblock.

I had this and my clinic wouldn't let me proceed without going ahead with the colposcopy. It was painless and although they found some low grade changes there was nothing to suggest anything sinister. I think they recommended waiting a couple of months but then I was able to crack on. At the time I was devastated but in hindsight I was just glad to get everything sorted so I was in tip top condition for my cycle, rather than rushing into another cycle and risking my own longer term health x

The same happened to me, and it was due to low grade changes. They did not see any abnormal cells and have to repeat smear again next year. She did say that it should not affect pregnancy. If it impacts your IVF timeline perhaps you can ring up the hospital and see if they can give you any advice, or see if there has been a cancellation and they can see you quicker? The doctor did also comment that a lot of GPs send for low grade changes when it’s not always necessary. Hope that helps x

This happened to me quite recently and I also put a post up to ask for other's experiences - healthunlocked.com/fertilit...

I attended the colposcopy and they had a look and applied dye which is supposed to show up any abnormal cells. In my case they couldn't see anything of concern at the colposcopy and they said therefore they did not need to take a biopsy at that stage. However I will return in a year to be looked at again.

In some cases they will take a biopsy and need to remove the cells before continuing with the treatment.

I hope this helps xx

I had this and at the colposcopy I had to have lletz procedure (I told the doctor about the IVF who did it at the same time as biopsy to speed things along) I had to postpone treatment (I was in the middle of a FET had had prostrap injection already) and then once biopsy results said they got everything I had to have a follow up smear 6 months later. The cells abnormal cells they found were CIN 3 for me though (which is apparently the worst grade of abnormal (other than cancer of course!) The clinic wouldn't restart me until the results of the follow up smear, however I have heard that if the colposcopy doctor had written a letter to the clinic to say they were happy for me to proceed that I may not have had to wait. I’m so sorry you are having this set back I hope you are okay and it doesn’t delay things very much for you but always better to be safe 💜 xxx

thank you all so much for your kinds words and advice. I’ve found this whole experience quite lonely so you’ve all made this seem a lot let isolating! I have my colposcopy on Thursday and the ivf doc said as long as things look okay they would be happy to proceed with another cycle. Fingers crossed! Thank you all again xx
