Hi ladies, it wont be long before I start our 3rd fresh cycle. We are at a new private clinic now we are self funding. We had a consultation last week, and they will be putting me on long protocol starting with buserelin injections. My last 2 cycles have only ever been short protocol, and I must say I am bit nervous about doing long protocol due to the effects of the drugs on your hormones.
I never really noticed much hormonal changes on short protocol.
Can you share your experiences on long protocol, how did you find it? How was the dreaded buserelin? Did you find long protocol worked better for you over short?
Thank you xx

I was on a long protocol in December (23day on buserelin) then meriofert and buseriline for a further week.
I dreaded the symptoms but only had the odd hot flush, period was normal, but the headaches were horrible - I didn’t want to take paracetamol so I just used forehead rub.
I got 10 eggs, 5 fertilised but only 2 good enough, one froze and had the other 5d blast transferred in Jan which I got BFP but turned out to be chemical x
I found it fine, didn't have any side affects, started to get a bit difficult to put in near the end as my skin seemed like rubber, but it didn't hurt, was just more annoying. I used an ice pack just before and after to numb it a little and to stop the itching after! We did this for our frozen and fresh cycle, bfp both times but had a chemical with the first xx
Buserelin injections are not painful at all, I had no bruises which is a good thing. The worst part is side effects hot flushes 🥵 are something that I don’t want to experience ever again. They are terrible, horrible! 😤🤬😡
I had 2 times long protocol and 1 time short. I have much better results on long comparing with short. One resulted in 1 top quality embryo (still on ice).
On long protocol doctors can control your follicles growth much better and all will have the same size before the stimulation, which is crucial important.
Thanks for your reply. I'm glad to hear you have a top quality embryo on ice 👍🤞 the hot flushes dont sound fun at all, but will just have to see what happens.
Yes I am quite glad we are trying something different, a longer slower process rather than fast and on the max dosage of menopur which I've had previously! So hoping we get better results this time xx
I'm doing busereline for the first time now - but a long protocol. It's been going ok, I think the headaches have been the worst bit - but constantly having water and caf-free tea helps. Also headaches have been worst early mornings and late at night before bed. Other then that it has been fine (although , I'm being difficult to my husband , but am trying not to).
Thanks for sharing ☺ so keeping hydrated seems a must ! I hope all is going well ok your cycle, wishing you lots of luck too xx
I had buserelin down reg for FET and for long protocol for egg collection. I didn’t find the hot flushes or headaches too bad but did suffer from insomnia and anxiety. I don’t think it’s the worst drug though. The oestrogen, progesterone and FSH are worse in my opinion!
I’ve done a short and a long protocol now. The long wasn’t so bad and you get used to the injections. Didn’t get flushes like some but I did get headaches due to hormone rush. The clinic told me i could take paracetamol but when the drugs were reduced the headaches stopped.
Results wise the long protocol was better as collected more eggs & better quality. I also got a BFP but unfortunately ended in chemical. We got more eggs tho so had some to freeze and on short we didn’t.
Hope this helps, best of luck with it all lovely xx
Thanks for your reply! So sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancy, it's not fair 😔
I'm glad you managed to get some to freeze we have never been able to do this, fingers crossed the long protocol is better for me too, lots of love xx
I have been on a long protocol for my egg collection. I have found Buserelin OK except for a few headaches during the initial stage. I also had a bleed after taking a week of Buserelin. Otherwise, I have been feeling fine. Good luck woth your next cycle!
