Hello,

Had some upsetting news today received my smear results in tha Post this morning. Which showed I have low grade cells and a hpv infection. I have had these in the past and my last smear was normal. I was due to start Ivf next month and now I am deverstated that this wil have to be put on hold. I now have to go for a colposcopy. Has any one else had this happen to them?

Oh no, typical that something flags up now :-(

I wasn’t going through ivf at the time of my abnormal smear, but had to have a colposcopy and a retest and it went back to normal.

Annoying bodies!!

I had colposcopy few years ago. Good they got it on time and can be treated because if you get pregnant and is a girl she would get hpv as well. It's not scary and recovery is quite quick as well. Don't let this to put you down, everything happens for a reason. Keep positive and im sure once is all over the time to start your cycle will come quicker than you think. Sending lots if hugs xxxx

Yup. It's good they caught this now so it can be dealt with before pregnancy - your immune system is depressed when pregnant so the virus would be unchecked. It's a pain and frustrating but should be all sorted soon. Colposcopy is fine and if you're doing IVF, and hopefully getting pregnant, it'll be no big deal to have feet up in stirrups with people looking at your bits!!

I am so used to all the procedures now! I just hope the virus goes away soon x

Hi this happened to me about six months ago. I went straight for a colposcopy - all was fine and as long as I had a ‘all clear’ letter I could start ivf straight away! Make sure you get that letter!

It feels like a disaster at the time (mine was week before we started) but in the end the peace of mind and lack of delay was actually a positive! Good luck xx

I have this before and i had a phone call to say that everytbing was fine and they will bring me back fo. A smear again in 6 months. Do you think the clinic would let me start if I had to have another smear in 6 months time? '

I’ve had that too... I was monitored for the following 5 years, with an annual colposcopy.

It didnt impact on my ivf treatment though, as long as I up to date with my annual reviews, the clinic were fine 💕 xx

Hi there I had that dreaded letter 8 years ago but so glad I did. It's good to get it checked out before starting your cycle and to make sure all is ok. For me, mine turned out to be CIN3 and within couple of weeks I was in having a LLetz procedure to remove it. I had never had an abnormal smear either. At my smear 6 months after the LLetz all was back to normal and no sign of the hpv virus and I then went back to normal smears and all has been fine since (🤞🏼 it stays that way). Good luck with your colposcopy xx
