Feeling a little deflated after Egg Collection.. wrong trigger prescribed

I had my egg retrival this morning. At my scan on Monday I had more than 20 follicles so they changed my trigger shot from ovitrelle to buserelin.

After retrieving 10 eggs this morning, they have said I now need more medication as I had buserelin not ovitrelle and probably should have had the ovitrelle. So because of the extra meds I might not have settled down from the transfer so may have to freeze the eggs and have a frozen transfer. I feel so disappointed, I thought I would have retrieved more eggs. I don't want to wait another month for a frozen transfer! I know 10 eggs is still very good, i suppose i just set the bar high because they said i had so many follicles 😔

Has anyone else had a fresh transfer after taking buserelin trigger shot?

We had similar numbers of follicles and eggs collected (9 mature) and also had a last minute trigger change and ended up having to freeze all due to mild OHSS .

We got 5 frosties, of which one is now my little girl and 3 are still frozen.

I know the feeling of disappointment and you do just want to push on with it, but it ended up being good for me to let my body get back to 100% before transfer. So look after yourself while recovering and keep your chin up. Hope you get good news on fertilization and lots of lovely frosties xxx

Hi, I was in a similar situation to you and still had the ovitrelle. This I believe is what tipped me over the edge and led to me spending 10 days in hospital In a serious condition with OHSS. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone it was the worst experience of my life, I could never have imagined it was possible to feel so poorly. I remember when I was told my ovaries were in a state and I *may* have to have a freeze all I cried all weekend. When I came out of egg collection and it was confirmed I cried again and was so angry. I was devastated and absolutely remember how you feel right now and for that I’m sending massive hugs.

Then things were very quickly put into perspective and I wish every day that the clinic had changed my trigger injection and believe that they absolutely should have done and it may have prevented the horrific experience I had. I had 33 eggs retrieved and have 14 embryos in the freezer (egg collection in August and obviously had to have a freeze all) and I say all the time that while I’m lucky to have a lot of embryos in reserve, I’d have rather had less and been well and felt like someone had tried to stop me becoming so poorly.

I completely understand how upset you are about having to wait for FET as I felt exactly the same (and still do after my natural cycle was cancelled this week), but please take some reassurance from the fact that you are likely to recover well and that the clinic cared enough about you over the numbers of eggs to try and do something to keep you well.

10 is still a good number, it’s average and actually in IVF I think average is a good thing. I have been far from average in every way I have reacted to everything and am now 6 months in and on my 4th protocol and haven’t even got to a transfer yet. Sometimes less is more 😘 Sending lots of love x

My clinic rang this morning to say they had to use ICSI but managed to successfully fertilise 7 eggs. As long as I'm well enough, we plan to transfer on Monday 🤞

That’s absolutely brilliant! I’m so pleased. I just wanted you to see the reason behind why they sometimes recommend a freeze all or an alternative trigger because I just couldn’t see past not being able to have a transfer at the time. Hopefully the trigger they gave you was the right one in this case and leads to a successful fresh transfer for you ❤️
