7 eggs collected feeling a little deflated

** UPDATE**

We’ve had the call from the embryologist this morning, 5 eggs were suitable for ICSI, and 3 of those 5 have fertilized.

Come on the big three, stay with us.

Love and baby dust to you all 💞🍍

I’m feeling deflated as I only managed to have 7 eggs collected this morning.

The last two egg collections resulted in 16 eggs each time.

Are there any success stories out there having lower numbers of eggs collected?

Now to wait for the call tomorrow morning. xx

Hi lovely, I had a similar cycle last year in which I got 6 eggs after a bit of a trigger cock up. I was fortunate to get 2 good blastocysts from them so all is not lost.

My previous and subsequent cycles have had 14 - 18 eggs...

Good luck xx

I’ve only ever had 7 eggs on my first collection and 9 on my second. I was really upset with 7 as well, but my doctor reminded me that it’s always about quality over quantity. Fortunately, all 7 fertilised and 6 made it to blastocysts for my first cycle and for my second, 8 were mature and 7 good enough to use/freeze. So try not to worry too much about the number collected. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻🍀 xx

Hello, I had two rounds of egg collect this year (at 41), the first I got 8 eggs and 4 freezable quality blastocysts, while for the second I got 15 eggs but only 2 freezable blastocycsts (and the 2 were poorer quality than the 4). So for me this year lower egg numbers actually worked out a lot better! It's all so confusing and I don't really understand why, but just goes to show all still very much to play for. Good luck!

Yes absolutely, I had three collected, 2 made it to blasto, I had both transferred and only 1 continued to grow, I am now 33 weeks pregnant, try not to fixate on the numbers right now, you just need 1 :-) good luck X

My twins are from the cycle I only had 2 collected. My previous 2 cycles where I got 14 each time either ended in BFN or no normals after PGS testing

Hi I had 6 egg collected back in feb my 2nd ivf cycle, 5 fertilised & 2 made it to good quality embryos , currently 24 weeks pregnant following day 4 fresh transfer & one frozen , on my first ivf cycle I only had 3 eggs collected & 2 fertilised only 1 made it but failed the thaw on day of transfer. So was delighted to get 6 at the next one.

Try not to worry about the numbers you just need that one good quality egg .

Wishing you all the best xx

Try not to feel too deflated! In my two egg collections so far I got 17 and 15 eggs, but each time only two made it to blastocyst… A friend of mine only collected 6 eggs but then 4 made it to blastocyst! So keep your hopes up, it’s still a good number and you only need one good one ;) xx

I had 7 normally fertilised eggs both rounds (8 and 9 eggs collected) and got 4 and 5 top or good quality blastocysts on the two rounds respectively. Currently 9 weeks from the second round with 7 frosties in the freezer. Number of eggs doesn’t always dictate number of blastos, and sometimes less is more as quality can be better with fewer. So you are still in a strong position 🙂 xx

Hello, always remember that it’s quality over quantity! You only need one good one, relax, stop worrying and focus on what you have not how many eggs you don’t! Wishing you lots of luck xx

I only got 5, 2 made it to blastocyts. 1st try ended m/c. Second and final egg worked. Now feeding a 8 month year old. It only takes one! All the best of luck!

I only got 3, only 1 fertilised and made it to blast. She’s now 3 months old and delicious. It only takes 1, good luck x

I had 6 cycles, first 5 I got 15+ and no successful pregnancy (2 BFN, 3 MMC) last cycle I got 9 and have a beautiful 7 month old. She was our final embryo, we wouldn't have tried again. I honestly feel (in my case anyway) that less eggs meant better quality for me. Good luck 🤞🏻 xx

Similar story to you with having 3 egg collections, although your numbers are a bit better than mine.First two cycles I got 9 and 10 retrieved I think. My last cycle they stimulated me one day longer as it was over a weekend and I lost a load of the bigger follicles so only retrieved 5. It was a shock after responding well the last two times and my numbers actually looking higher this round on the run up to retrieval.

Of the 5 that were retrieved, 3 fertilised and 1 of those made it to blastocyst at day 5 (but only just at grade 1BB). I’m just coming up on 11 weeks pregnant with that little blastocyst and all is going well so far.

Hopefully this gives you a bit of hope, and hope to others doing multiple rounds, those who get the shock of a worse than expected egg retrieval and those who think their blastocyst is low quality. Miracles can happen.

Sending you all the luck in the world x

If you feel deflated then I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel as I only got four collected yesterday. Each cycle is getting worse and worse for me. Cycle 1 was 6 eggs, cycle 2 was 5 eggs.

Hi, I had 7 eggs retrieved from our last round. 5 were suitable for icsi 4 fertilised and we ended up with 3 really good 5 day blastocysts. Currently 18 weeks pregnant and 2 still frozen. It’s not about the number it’s about the quality don’t worry x

Hi. Could I ask what (if any) supplements you were taking, diet, exercise etc?

I was taking micronized DHEA for 3 months before egg retrieval, and I also requested that the eggs be retrieved slightly earlier as this has been been shown to possibly improve quality. Let me know if you would like the links to the studies supporting these pretreatments. I didn't change my diet and I think i cut down on alcohol in the couple of months before retrieval but still had the odd glass. I was doing low-level exercise as part of my daily routine (taking my older kid to daycare by bike). I haven't seen much good evidence that diet or exercise improves egg quality...

Thank you. I have seen those papers. My eggs grow at different rates and that bothered me but actually, there may be positives to that. I love hearing these stories so thank you for the info.

I'm having my first egg collection this Monday. I'm only having it taken from the left side as my right is unaccessible (hiding under my uterus) so it'll be difficult to collect. So far, they can see 8 on the left
