Can anyone suggest reasons for changing from gonal-f to menopur after successful treatment on gonal-f?

Does anyone know what might be the reasons for changing from gonal-f to menopur when gonal-f resulted in a baby?

Background is I was 40 and we had ivf using gonal-f. It resulted in a beautiful baby yay. We went back a couple of years later to try for a number 2 and I was given menopur. Had 2 cycles, 2 blastocysts put back but none took. I found out afterwards that although most women respond better to menopur, some women respond better to gonal-f. It seems strange to me that when I clearly responded well enough to gonal-f to produce a child, that I wasn't given gonal-f when trying for number 2.

Does anyone know enough about this to know the reasons why they might have changed my medication?

Doctor says they're not sure if they would have given me gonal-f if we went in for our first round now (first round on gonal-f was successful) but they're totally sure that changing it to menopur was the correct thing to do. He said the fact that some older women don't do as well on menopur has to be compared to the fact that the vast number of women do better on it.

I see their point. But I'm also fairly sure they if there was any uncertainty and they made the wrong decision because the doctor was working long hours in 2 different clinics then they wouldn't tell me that.

I guess I'll never know.

I think it depends on your consultant, I was on menopur last time, 23 eggs collected, 2 blastocysts one ended in MC and the other didn’t take.

This time I’ve been on a combination of fostimon and Gonal-f - how I’ve responded on it took them by surprise so it was a Oh your ready better get you in, weren’t expecting you to be ready yet!! I’m 40, 41 this month.

Just on way to have a fresh egg transfer, 12 eggs collected, 9 fertilised normally and on Tuesday 8 were still going well and one was slowing down - so I’ll see what I have left today suitable for PGT-A and freezing (the lab no longer calls you everyday

Hi Sorry I am going to be nosy! I turn 40 in August and had a very bad cycle this time. What drugs were you on? Do you think drugs make a difference? Good luck for transfer today :)

This time I did 6 days of fostimon , so that was 225ui one day followed by 150ui the next.

Day 6 they put me on a secondary injection of Fyremadel.

Day 7 I did a 150 of Gonal-f

Day 8 I did 225 of Gonal-F

Then ovitrelle trigger shot, in on Saturday just gone for Egg Collection.

As I say they collected 12 this time, 10 were mature and 9 fertilised normally, ones slowing down, that was the information I was given Tuesday, so I don’t know how many I have left at the moment.

My first cycle I was on menopur 150. 23 eggs collected, 17 matured and fertilised, then went to 15, by the time blastocyst came I only had two to freeze a 5BB and a 3BB - I did actually have 5 left, but because I had a polyp that needed to be removed I couldn’t do a fresh transfer - the not know what would have happened got to me a bit, but what can you do

I’m really not sure if I’m a position to say if the drugs make a difference, it depends on your lifestyle, medical history etc. Last time I cut out alcohol completely and it didn’t make a blind bit of difference

This time round I’ve not cut out alcohol but been very sensible with intake. I really researched for preparation purposes and read the book, it starts with the egg. I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough if it works?!

Thank you so much for responding! Still I am super impressed with your numbers. I was on the same drugs:) but probably have a lower ovarian reserve! Best of luck. I have it all crossed for you today. (Ps: I don’t drink at all so clearly a sensible alcohol intake vs no alcohol makes no difference). Thank you again for your time. Let us know When you are PUPO

Just had my transfer

Out of the 8 - one is progressing at a very good rate and just been transferred which is a 5AB - not that that really means much!

Three further ones are still going well and from what I understand will have PGT-A done on them

The other 4 are still going but not up there like the others and ones clearly dropped off

So fingers crossed it works this time
