Starting Buserelin on day 18

Hi Everyone,

This is my first cycle of IVF and feeling a mixture of emotions (pure joy as been waiting a long time to start (3 years), nervousness, excitement and everything in between!)

I called up the clinic on Tuesday 10th as it was my first day of my cycle and basically we couldn’t get booked in before Christmas and as she wanted me to start Buserelin on day 17 which would Boxing Day. So we left it that we would start in the new year (we were half expecting this from what the Doctor has told us previously).

The next day I get calls, texts, voicemail and emails from a drug company to drop off all my medication.... not expecting this at all as hadn’t had my nurses appointment. So I called the clinic and I think there was little mess up on ordering but basically they are doing to do the nurses appointment on 27th Dec which will be day 18 rather than day 17..... I have shorter cycles, normally 24days (but my last one was 21days) - my question is do you think this matters?

I have been waiting 3 years for my one cycle on the nhs so really want to give myself the best possible chance of this working! I can wait one more month if they think it’s less likely to work if I start a day later .... has anyone else started on day 18 (or another day) rather than day 17? Or have shorter cycles and what day did you start the Buserelin?

Thanks in advance (and sorry for the long post)

I have 26-27 day cycles and I’m starting day 19 this time. I’ve been reassured that it doesn’t really matter which day you start, it Starts working quite quickly. This bit just shuts down your ovaries so they can take control of your cycle, they will check this has happened with a scan before you start stimulation drugs x

Arh ok, thank you. That has reassured me. How many cycles have you had if you don’t mind me asking? Any advice? 😊 x

This is my second fresh. My first fresh resulted in 4 blastocysts which gave one mmc of twins @9w, a BFN and then a loss at 17 weeks, my baby had Trisomy 21 and some other problems. I’m nervous and excited all at once. I’m taking extra supplements this time round and hoping for better luck! X

Good luck x

Can you go for injection teach this side of Christmas so that you can start on day 18 at home? I just made sure I'd had my injection teach and they send the drugs out super quickly. I've already got mine for a january start (round 2).
