Buserelin

Hello!

I was just wondering if anybody else has been told to start Buserelin on a day other than 1,2 or 21 of their cycle? My clinic have got me to start on day 9. But I am on it for 22 days before my scan so plenty of time for it to down-regulate me I guess! I’m just wondering if it will stop me ovulating this first week as I’ll be due to ovulate about 5 days after starting. I know it can be harmful to take Buserelin if pregnant so should I avoid sex until the ovulation window is over? Obviously getting pregnant is very unlikely at this point but you do hear of these crazy stories where it happens at the “wrong” time...! Planning to ring the clinic but thought I’d see if anyone on here has been in this situation! xxx

Hi, yes I have had this situation. I’m cycle 4 now and have started buserelin on different days of the month each cycle. I have always had a down reg bleed and sometimes two bleeds as I’ve had my usually period as well. This time my down reg bleed was late and I was worried but I have had the bleed. So I would worry about which day you are on. It’s all about the drug taken over your cycle anyway.

My clinic have never advised us about using protection but I think it’s best to as you still might ovulate until the drug has taken effect and like you say these things can happen! I was concerned about this as well. Also thinking the chances of falling pregnant were slim for me but still was a worry. Hope this helps and that your clinic can put your mind at rest. Good luck. They won’t mind. That’s what they are their for. I’ve been on it for 23 days now and have my scan today. I’m glad I have been on it a few days longer cause my bleed is only just finishing! Every cycle is so different and brings its own worries! Hope all goes well for you. Xx

I started mine on day 21 but that was because I was on long protocol. I think in theory you shouldnt ovulate if you are starting on day 9 so shouldnt ovulate before that.xx
