Yesterday I had my first consultation appointment for being a egg sharer. The consultant is now saying as my dad has bipolar I may not be able to be a sharer.
Which has confused me very much as I wrote this on every application. Even after they read this they called me in for my AMH and then yesterday for my consultation, more blood test and to do counselling. Has anyone been stopped as there dad or family member has bipolar?
I don’t see why it should affect me as my mental health is fine and so is everyone else in my family.
Any information will be great! As she is saying I will have to wait for next week for a call.😢😇

Hey. Blimey that does sound confusing. I have never heard that and maybe could ask for a second opinion. I did not think that something like bi polar is genetic and if is then only a v small influence so really can’t see how it would be an issue. Sorry no experience in terms of the egg sharing but I have a few family members with mental health issues, one with bi polar but parents or their parents don’t or have not had this so would not say that it was ever genetics that had a huge influence on their mental health.
Best wishes with gaining more info and answers hun xx
Hi. On the nhs website it’s says that bipolar is a chemical imbalance in the brain but that there is also a genetic link to it, as family members of someone with bipolar are at an increased risk of developing it. Whilst there may be no issues for you using your eggs, it may be a concern to the person receiving your eggs through egg sharing. Unfortunately, I think the doctor is going to be the only one who can give you the answers you need. Hopefully it’s just something they have to look into further, but won’t be a definite no. I’m sorry if this wasn’t the answer you were hoping for x
