Hi lovely, we sound very similar.. I’m also 38 and had multiple rounds and transfers. My last round we got 10 eggs, 4 fertilised and only 2 were looking like potentials to go forward with. Because of the low number my doctor recommended a day 3 transfer as his theory is that the uterus is a better environment than the lab. If we’d had 4 or more options he would have waited to day 5 to pick the best one. I was so worried about a day 3 transfer but it worked for us 🤞🏼❤️✨ Wishing you so so so much luck with yours! It’s a mind boggling time but if the embryo looks good on day 3 it has every chance of success. Will be thinking of you and keeping everything crossed 🤞🏼✨ x x
I personally would ask for a day 3 transfer although I know some clinics just don't do them. My clinic always says the only reason to take them to day 5 is to decide which is the best quality to transfer and freeze, so if you don't have a selection to put them back asap. I have even had a day 2 transfer in the past. Heaps of luck xx
Hi Hoping, I had my eggs collected yesterday too and have low numbers. My clinic has provisionally booked me in for a 3 day transfer - just so they have the chance to transfer something. We are the best incubators after all!
They’ve said that if two are viable at day 3 then they’ll try and hold out for a Day 5 transfer. Definitely discuss it with your clinic because you’d rather give it a shot at day 3 if it’s your only one.
Thank you - I have emailed my consultant. I feel like every turn with IVF is so nerve wracking. I've always had good fertilisation rates and between 2-6 making it to blastocyst; so todays phone call came as a massive shock. I know I'm older now, so it's to be expected. I have emailed my consultant to find out if he thinks I should have a 3dt.
I don't know who calls the shots embryologists or my consultant? Embryologists weren't keen when I suggested 3 dt - I don't know why. The way I see it is that I have nothing to lose.
It's so disappointing when you get a result like this. I had a day 2 transfer last time, as the quality of the eggs were good, but they weren't growing fast enough. The clinic said the best place for them was in me. It was the longest wait! Someone said to me that their clinic doesn't do that because they don't want to disturb the embryos until they are strong enough to move. 2 different opinions 🤷♀️
Whatever you do, good luck, my fingers are crossed for that remaining embryo 🤞❤
I say go with a 3rd day transfer.I always have good egg numbers around 12 but then only 3 or 2 would fertilize and I would always do a 3rd day transfer of all embryos available.
(I have a 2 year old and currently pregnant so it does really work)
Hi Hoping! I hope you’re doing great. I was just searching the site re my current conundrum and we’re in the same boat! Also 38, also just done imsi, also only got 5 eggs. 2 have fertilised and they’ve said to plan for day 3 transfer. That freaked me out as in the past we’ve always gotten a good bunch of day 5 high quality blasts (not that any of them have stuck!). How did you feel about the d3 transfer in the end?
Hi Trying,I felt relieved it was inside me. I think I would’ve felt regret if the embryo hadn’t made it to day 5, at least this way I know I’ve given it the best shot inside my body.
I’m currently 7dp3dt. Usually I’m a serial tester… but this cycle I am petrified.
