Bleeding @12w after stopping estrogen/progesterone

Hi,

I’m 12w pregnant after a FET. I had a pinkish-brownish spotting between week 4 and 9 but doc told to worry only if it was bright red. I was taking 8mg per day of estrogen (progynova) + 800 mg per day of progesterone (Utrogestan) + injection 25 mg Lubion (progesterone). Fertility clinic told me to stop at 12w. I rechecked this with my OBGYN when I had my appointment at 11w. She confirmed I should stop all the meds but I should continue with 200mg Utrogestan per day for at least more 2 weeks.

So, my last day of “full” medication was Thursday. Then on Saturday I started bleeding (bright red). It was like I was having my period. I was so scared that I went to the A&E. I had a scan and babies were fine. Doc told me it was a threatened miscarriage. Now, I’m on bed rest and the dose of Utrogestan was increased to 400mg per day.

I bled during Saturday and Sunday and today I’m back to brownish spotting. Does anyone experienced something like this?! This journey is an emotionally roller-coaster and nothing is easy!

Oh what a stress! I have a girl from IVF and had a lot of bleeding during about week 10 and again 17 and it was just one of those things. She one and a half now - a mystery to this day what happened! Hope it’ll pass soon and is also a mystery - not great not to know, but better than a negative cause!

Thanks for your reply! Congratulationns on your baby girl!

Yeahh same here... big mystery! I hope all ends well!

I really hope all is OK and wishing you so many positive thoughts. It must be scary! I'm roughly at same point as you I will be 12 weeks next Thur and this is when I have my first NHS appointment. I've been told to stop Progynova and Utrogestan at my 13th week. I questioned it as was worried about the abrupt stop as I'm on mega dose of both - 1600mg per day of Utrogestan!! The consultant said absolutely fine and technically meds could stop at 10 weeks but they tend to say 12 or 13 weeks to keep it simple to stop all meds. I have to say I am a little worried about stopping and will mention it at my first midwife booking in appointment next week.

I hope you're able to rest and relax and wishing you all the best for a continued healthy pregnancy x

Thanks for your reply! Yeah... they explained me it was safe to stop because placenta was taking over now. But the fact is that I bled a day after stopping all those meds! Maybe it was only a coincidence... :(

I'm resting and a little more relaxed because the bleeding (bright red) has stopped! Now it's only brownish spotting.

I hope you also have a healthy pregnancy!

I have had problems with bleeding myself the day before i was 12 weeks i woke up to quite a lot of bright red blood and cramping was beside myself thinking it was all over but little one was fine they couldn't explain it i had bleeding previously but not bright red so was shocked everything was ok 🤞nothing since and nearly 15 weeks now its super stressful to go through im still paranoid everytime i go to the toilet 🤞 everything is ok for you

I'm glad you're doing fine. :) It seems lots of us have bright red blood without explanation. But it's so scary!!!

I'm on bed rest and the bright red blood has stopped. Now I'm only having brownish spotting. I'll have another scan on Friday to see if everything is OK!

Fingers crossed🤞!

Hope you continue having a healthy pregnancy! :)

Oh, hun, I can imagine how you feel now. I remember when I saw my spotting. It wasn't red but still, it was and I was very worried about that. I truly believe that everything will be alright with your babies and you. God bless you, dear.

Thank you SunnyDream! I'm more relaxed now because the bright red bleeding has stopped. Now it's only brownish spotting! I try to think positive while I wait for the scan on Friday!

Oh, hun, That's good news. You are not so worried now, at least. I wish you good luck on your scan. Looking forward to updates on here. Baby dust and fingers crossed for you!

UPDATE: It seems bed rest and utrogestan did the trick. I did another scan today and babies seemed fine! No more bleeding since yesterday, that's also a good sign! I guess I can relax a little more and enjoy this pregnancy! :)

Hi I experienced this at 11 weeks, same thing threaten miscarriage. Spent all weekend frightened and feared the worst. Had a scan on the monday and they were both fine. Then had the 12 week scan last thursday all ok. However she picked up a small blood pocket, and if I'm to bleed again go back to epu.

I'm hoping that doesn't happen, but I'm still getting brown spotting, more so when I wipe.

Has yours stopped now?

in reply toReer

Hi! I had some spotting spotting till I was 14 weeks and then it stopped. I kept doing the progesterone and rest.

In my case the probable cause was the fact that both placentas were lying low.

Fingers crossed for you!

Xx

Was it bleeding red? Or brown?

in reply toReer

At 12 weeks it was bright red bleeding. It last for 2 days and it was like I was having my period. then I continued having brownish spotting till I was 14 weeks.

Doc also told me it was a threatened miscarriage!

You did progesterone until 12 weeks? I'm wondering if I should start mine back up again?

in reply toReer

Until 12 weeks I was on Lubion 25 mg injection and Utrogestan 800mg per day (both progesterone). At 12 weeks I stopped this high dose and during 24h I only did 200mg Utrogestan per day as advised by my OBGYN. And it was then that my bright red bleeding started.

Then my private OBGYN told me to increase to 400mg Utrogestan per day.

in reply to

I took 400mg of Utrogestan till I was 24 weeks and since then I’m taking 200mg per day.

Thanks Lucy I appreciate the information. How are you getting on otherwise?

in reply toReer

I’m almost 31 weeks and everything was going fine after all the problems during the 1st trimester.

But with twin pregnancies we never know... yesterday I had an appointment and Doctor saw I was having signs of pre term labour (although I was feeling fine). I had to be admitted to take some IV meds to stop the contractions and to help the babies lungs. Luckily things are getting better and I can probably go back home tomorrow! 🙏
