Just when you think things are turning in your favour...

So this is essentially a massive moan. Was so pleased that FET is going ahead next week, after lots of obstacles during preparation. Now I seem to have some kind of infection/abscess in my tooth. I feel so poorly and am in so much pain. I have no dentist so I'm going to have to fork out to see the emergency dentist tomorrow. Do you think it's safe to process with FET if it turns out to be an infection?

Hi Hun I can’t comment on FET but as a qualified dental nurse for +20 years I can advise you. If you were one of my patients then we would always say if you can’t extract a tooth due to chronic infection or a patient would rather keep the tooth always start root canal treatment. The first stage should get you out of pain. Depending on if you have swelling or not antibiotics are not always necessary but are usually given. If you have chronic infection we would give them to you at any stage of your pregnancy. Be it you are trying or 40weeks. I wouldn’t put them off if you need them. Call your clinic but I bet they say all will be well to go ahead. Good luck xx

Well this has cheered me up! Thanks so much for your reply. At least it shouldn't have any effect on my FET going ahead. It's a wisdom tooth causing the problems I think, so wouldn't care if it got yanked. Apart from the fact that when I had the same one on the other side pulled it was horrifically unpleasant but that's just me being a baby x

Well if it’s a wisdom tooth. Run your toothbrush under warm water as it will soften the bristles and I know it hurts but try as best you can to push some of the bristles under the gum around the tooth. If you have any corsodyl mouthwash even better dip your brush into that, after use the corsodly in your mouth and hold it over the area for about a minute. I know it’s is disgusting but it really helps. Xx

The problem is, because of swelling I can't open my mouth wide enough to get my brush that far back!! Will try the corsodyl trick though, thank you x

Yep keep doing corsodyl or hot salt water south rinse (as hot as you can handle) Keeping it in the area or a minute. X

Hey there, I had a tooth extraction on Friday and I'm gearing up for FET 2 weeks or so. I was in a lot pain and I've known a while I'd need it treated- so just did it to get it done.

I didn't need antibiotics, and it's grand today now. While there she said I need 2 fillings. But I'll wait for those as not in any pain with them.

I was in so much pain that morning i just knew if it meant waiting another month then that would have to be. I already felt bad having to take painkillers the day before. I couldn't have lived like that another day! I'm so relieved it's out now and you will be too. Good luck

It's not unbearable but it's very uncomfortable and it's making me feel so poorly, have fever and just feel generally rubbish. Glad you've got some relief from your extraction! x

Oh yea I was miserable too, feeling really sorry for myself- the fertility drugs prob adding to me being all emotional about it! You'll be ok x

Yes I'm already emotional from the progesterone, this is definitely not helping 🙈

Thanks so much, it's a real relief to hear that this shouldn't effect my FET going ahead. I'll try the hot salt water, not looking forward to that 😳 x

Oh wow, went to the emergency dentist and they yanked my wisdom tooth. I'm so glad I didn't have chance to think about it, they just got it out! It's sore now but I'm glad it's out.
