Double FET

Hi ladies, gearing up ready for another crack at this after our mc in December. Our clinic has informed us that they'll be transferring 2 frozen blastocysts. Anybody with any experience of a double transfer? Assumed that they wouldn't transfer 2 due to me being 30. Is there a high chance of both sticking? Any advice would be much appreciated x

Hi. I had 3 frozen embryo transferred last month and got a BFP. I just had a bleed which lasted for about 10 mins. Waiting for my first scan. Fingers crossed, they will be implanted after the transfer.

Hi Kitcat,

Glad to hear you are having a FET soon ☺️

I had a double transfer just over 2 weeks ago. I was very surprised too, as they told me only one was being transferred and last minute they informed me that it would be 2.

I am 27, with a previous BFP, so not sure why they insisted on 2...

I am having a scan in 1 and a half weeks to find out how many stuck.

Good luck for your cycle 😘

Hello nice to see you here again. I haven't had experience of a double transfer but am considering it for next time if this FET does not work. Best of luck with your transfer xx

That's amazing! This is a bit of a worry for me. I would love to have twins but I know there can be complications with twin pregnancies so it does make me a little nervous. Congratulations to you, thrilled for you x

I’m (almost) 30 and had two put back yesterday. My understanding is that if you have had two unsuccessful cycles and no top grade embryos then it is within the NICE guideline recommendations, whatever age you are, as we are considered less suitable candidates for single transfer. Good luck x

I don't fit any of those criteria though, my embryos are top quality and I had a BFP on my first fresh cycle (sadly ended in MC) so I'm a bit confused as to why they're suggesting two x

Definitely worth checking with your doctors why they think that then. Don’t do anything you aren’t comfortable with. Hope you get some answers x

Hi iv had 2 blasts transferred on a fet after 2cps and a bfn. I am currently 5weeks + 2days, don't get a scan for 2weeks to check how many have stuck an if all is ok x

I had 2 transferred on 28th March. We had to sign a disclaimer even though the doc recommended transferring 2. Its our last go but apparently the embryologist said because ours were frozen when I was under 36 we come under the recommendations for a single transfer despite being nearly 39 now. We went with the docs advice though as it’s our last go and I’m also hypothyroid. We were told our chance of success was 45% with single or 55% with double so we wanted to maximise our chance xx

Ours were both day 5 blastos too so there is an increased chance of multiple. We would be grateful for 1 or 2 so as long as u are prepared for it happening it’s up to u.

This is interesting. I'm also hypothyroid, I wonder if this may be part of their reasoning for going with 2? 🤔

I had only one round of two being transferred but it was a fresh cycle and neither took. I’m 38 and they were collected September. They were great quality. My understanding is that putting two back doesn’t increase the success of a bfp but what it does do is increase your risk of twins. Hope that makes sense. Good luck xx

Ive always transferred 2 embryos together as it is supposed to help with success, however Im older than you. I guess there is always a chance of twins however I would think there is a reason that the clinic want to transfer two. Are they of lower quality do you know? It may be to boost you chances. If you are still worrying, why not call you clinic and ask if they can give you a ring back. They may be able to tell more specific rates of twins when transferring 2 embryos in their experience.xx

Yeah I wonder if they've maybe not looked properly at my notes tbh. Can't see any reason why they would want to transfer 2!

Hi - good to see you back and getting ready for next round! My clinic said it all really depends on quality of embryos. I had three put back last cycle and they said there wasn’t any risk of triplets.. I got my BFP if you remember with one embryo but obviously lost it later on. Other two disappeared. wishing you tons and tons of luck xx

Thanks lovely, I do remember you having a multiple transfer and MC around the same time as me 😞 how are you feeling now? x

in reply toKitcat12

I have been heaps better but having a down day today - not sure why. I am still waiting for my first AF (44 days after second surgery) so that’s driving me nuts and they won’t let me do ivf again until I’ve had 3 months Af (no frozen so have to do fresh cycle) and until they’ve investigated a fibroid and I can’t get an appt with consultant to do that until 27 June! So my life is massively on hold at the mo which is sooo frustrating!

How do you feel about trying again? I am desperate to but also really worried it won’t work as well - so it’s very confusing! xx

Oh bless you, that sounds so stressful and upsetting. It's awful when things take so long and you just don't feel like you're going anywhere. I had a really tough few months after the MC but I think I'm over the worst now and excited to go again. Like you though, I am terrified of things going wrong again this time round x

Masses of luck. Have everything crossed for you - keep us all updated xx

Hey,

I’m nearly 35 and had a double fresh transfer in March of 2 x 5 day blastos, one which was hatching. I asked for a double transfer as it was our 4th transfer after 2 BFNs and a MMC @ 7+4. I did get my BFP but waiting to see where and how many have implanted as they couldn’t see much at around 4-5 weeks.

I developed late onset moderate OHSS which when I have read up, can be more likely with multiples but at this moment don’t want to assume anything!

I think if you do go ahead with 2, just be prepared that both could stick! If your not to sure of transferring 2, discuss your concerns with your clinic.

Best wishes for your up and coming cycle though 🤞🏻🍀 xxx

Thanks ladies for all your replies, I'm just a little confused really. I don't mind the idea of twins at all, in fact I would be thrilled to have two. What does concern me is that I have top quality day 5 blasts frozen and a previous BFP so sorely the chances of both sticking would be quite high, so I'm just curious as to why. Guess there's nothing for it but to call the clinic and ask for clarification 🤷🏽‍♀️

Can I asked what happened with this please (9 months on lol!) Its just I'm meant to be having two transferred back too. Are you now expecting twins? My grades are BB and BC so not the best grades, and I'm 32 Xx

Just the one little boy ready to arrive in a couple of weeks 💙And now I've experienced pregnancy I have to say I'm not sure how I would have coped with twins, it's extremely hard on the body! And it's been very expensive getting everything ready for one. I am glad we went for the double transfer, as that obviously gave my body the best chance at a successful pregnancy but knowing what I know now I think twins would've been so hard!!

Hope all goes well with your labour xxx

Thank you, starting to feel very real now 😳 I would have been over the moon to have two but I know I would've struggled massively with the physical aspect of carrying them, I've found 1 incredibly taxing on my body! I hope all goes well for you, will be keeping an eye out for your updates ❤️x

Yes its meant to be alot more risky too 😣 I would probably faint if they told me two had worked!

Thanks so much for your help, you too ♥️💫
