has anyone got any previous experiences on a double frozen embryo transfer? I’ve read on here a few times that a lot of clinics don’t allow doubles a lot however my doctor has suggested a double after 2 failed singles in the last year.
I’m due to have FET next week and need to decide on 1 or 2 🤪🙈

I asked my doctor about doing a double FET this time and he said no. His rationale was that each of my prior transfers have implanted (even if three out of four ended early) and because I'd had success with my only FET. I think the risks were that it could be twins and all the doctors seen to want to avoid that, and I'd had a c-section so they don't want to risk twins. I asked about greater chance of success of at least one making it and also said I kind of wanted this stage of my life and fertility treatments to be over, but he was pretty adamant that only if a couple of single transfers didn't work and if I hadn't had a section, would he allow it. So it sounds like that's consistent with what your doctor's suggesting. Hopefully others will reply with their experiences of double transfers x
There’s no right or wrong to this and it’s a very personal choice that might be influenced by a few factors. I have had a few double and even more single transfers, just about all my doubles have been chemicals and my one success was with a single FET so sometimes it is down to luck! One of my double transfers was against doctors advice the rest were all with their advice. Here’s the consideration factors we go through:
Your age- from around age 40 there is no stats evidence that double transfers increase the risk of twins (there is when younger) so clinic usually more comfortable with doubles then
Embryo quality- if the 2 embryos are of really good quality that could statistically lead to a higher chance of both implanting and you might want to do 2 singles instead but of one or both of the embryos is of lower quality then that’s a balance they are willing to make over multiples
Previous goes- usually if you have had 2-3 transfers already with no luck they will start to consider trying a double transfer
Double transfers do increase your odds of implantation slightly (but not double) but do also carry the risks of multiples too so we’ve found it’s a kinda about getting the right balance for you in that particular transfer if that makes sense?
There is also some anecdotal evidence on doubles saying the embryos kinda have to compete with each other and I always wonder if that’s part of why mine are always chemicals but that’s all complete speculation on my part and it’s most likely just down to my embryos being abnormal etc. I would still do a double again if the circumstances were right.
Long answer sorry! 😅 I hope some of that helps and best of luck to you xx
I did double, and now pregnant with twins . Early days.. but will see. Its down to all the other factors, such as embryo quality and and uterus lining, etc etc.
Hi 👋 I had double transfer with donor eggs as I no longer had eggs 😢I have high blood pressure I requested the double transfer against doctor’s, I was 43 when we did a frozen double embryo transfer as we had tried previously 2 times with the fresh transfer and no luck… my twins are currently 1year 1 month….
All of the above is good advice. Just to add to it I had 2 x failed FETs at 39. I had a double transfer a few weeks before I turned 40 and my one son is now almost 8 mo. The second one never implanted I don’t think but it was never looking like it was going to be successful.
