When does your clinic ask you to test after a transfer?, do they do bloods or a home pregnancy test? Are UK, US or somewhere else?

I’ve read such a mix of this online I’m curious so thought I’d ask! Thanks.

I’m in the UK, home pregnancy test, 13 days post transfer. (5dt not sure if different for 3dt).

UK with two different big clinics always been urine home test 11dp5dt. Any clinic making you wait longer is just wanting to avoid biochemical pregnancies being picked up. Home tests I guess let you do in privacy and absorb news. Also saves workload and appts for clinic. There’s research papers showing that HCG in blood at day 8/9 post transfer at a good level predicts a good outcome - but it takes a couple more days for the HCG in the blood to show in urine at high enough levels.

That’s interesting about the hcg levels. From what I’ve seen blood testing seems to be super common in the US and not so much here. I’ve had bloods in the past but only where there was a concern something wasn’t quite right. Wonder if the at home kits are popular at all.

Yes I’m sure you’re right about longer wait times. Just had a thought if another part of the reason could be around their stats - clinical pregnancies v live births? Maybe a little cynical but I reckon there’s something to it!

Hi from v rainy UK! I had a double ICSI embryo 5day transfer and OTD was 14days later through home urine test. I'd actually been testing positive since 5days as I wanted to monitor progression.

Due to previous history and insanely high levels throughout, I booked privately hcg & progesterone bloods 2 days apart. Private ultrasound booked this week as clinic won't do viability scan until 7.5 weeks!

Fingers crossed to everyone for their future bambinos 🥰

Ah well that’s a bit of sunny news on a very rainy day! Congrats ♥️

Yes they’re both on the longer side. It’s hard to wait when you know you’ve had earlier results before. But then I guess pregnancies can be different! Mine will scan from 7 weeks. Good luck with everything 🤞

I am in the U.K. Mine was 9dp5dt . They said the 2ww started from egg collection for me. It was a home urine test. They said if it wasn’t positive to try again in 2 days then ring them if still negative. They would only do a beta if there were concerns like changing results.

I’m in the U.K. When I was having treatment in the U.K. they liked a pregnancy test on day 11. If it was positive they’d bring you in the following day for a HCG check.

I’m now in Greece and they request a urine pregnancy test on day 12 but say a HCG on day 10 is fine if you don’t want to wait until OTD!

My clinic is 11dp5dt. 9dp5dt is equivalent to 4 weeks pregnant, if you got pregnant naturally and had a 28 day cycle 9dp5dt would be day of your missed period, and pretty much all prgnancy tests say they are accurate on that day.

uk at home test day 10 or 11 for fresh transfer and between day 13-15 for FET. For a FET they seem to go by when they started progesterone rather than the actual transfer day so it has varied. I have had quite a few positive tests (chemicals, miscarriages and 2 successful pregnancies) and they have all shown up by day 8 though so I have never waited for OTD since my IUI days years and years ago 😂 xx

I’ve never waited either! I gave it a go last time to see if I felt any different about things but I made it to day 7 and absolutely hated it. Lost the plot and was so much more anxious than just testing early 🫠 Now I’m just owning being an early tester, whatever gets you through the madness I say! 😅🙃

I totally agree 🤗💜 I feel a bit sad when folk say ‘I caved and tested’ and feel guilty about it somehow or people say ‘try not to test early, you really shouldn’t ’ cos everyone is different and it makes absolutely no difference to the outcome when you first test and each clinic is different and just make up a date anyways that suits them 🤷🏻‍♀️. X

Exactly. Was part of the reason I made this post (along with just being nosy!) as it kind of supports the fact that you can take the dates with a pinch of salt.

And totally agree on the guilt thing, as if we’ve not got enough to worry about being dealt this crappy hand! X

I'm UK, same clinic both times. Fresh transfer 4 years ago and tested on 14dpt and a FET end of last year and tested 10dpt.

In Slovenia we have a blood test 14 dpt or even 15, 16 if it falls on the weekend.

DancingQu33n in reply toSaskia9

Oh gosh 16 days! Would you usually do a test at home first? I think I’d explode waiting till then!

Saskia9 profile image
Saskia9 in reply toDancingQu33n

Yeah, I always tested at home around day 9 or 10. If it was positive I also went privetly to test for beta. I had 2 chemicals before my baby.

I’m in the uk and my clinic tested day 10 post transfer with a blood test. HCG levels between 50-100 were retested 2 days later. This was for FET.

Hi from Australia, I've been with 3 clinics here and all 3 test 10dpt or 11dpt with a blood test! Certainly no hpt's here!

Hello from Scotland, our clinic asks for a home test 15 DPT and that's been with 5 day embryos. It is always a loooooooong 15 days 😂

UK, home pregnancy test 11 & 13 days post transfer. No beta / bloods - this is NHS not private x

Hi, been to 2 English clinics - first pregnancy test Day 11 and then a blood test they gave you to do at home Day 14. Other clinic just HPT on Day 11. However if your lines are faint they ask you to get your bloods done to check development.
