So I restarted my progynova cycle after a bleed last week and just had my scan. Lining was 10.2mm with tri laminar. I finally got there but due to my bleed last week, I have suffered from horrendous rectal pain due to my severe endometriosis. I couldnt walk, or move, the pain got so bad so I have been taking codeine and paracetemol and diclofenic supposoteries for some relief. My fertility dr today was a bit lost for words as said that due to me taking this type of pain relief, it could negatively impact the frozen embryo transfer. I just broke down in tears. After everything and coming so far with this journey and trying to battle this horrid painful condition that I have along with it, I feel numb. The Dr said he can restart my cycle with another bleed once I am on top of this pain, but I explained to him that everytime I have any sort of bleed, it kicks off this rectal pain severely. I made a decision today to stay off the strong pain killers and fight the pain as hard as I can and then go in for my next scan in Tuesday to see where we are at and then the dr will prepare for transfer on 30th May. He said as long as I am able to fight this fight then ok, if not, he will stop the cycle again and try down regulating again using a natural approach. Any advice on how I can help flush out the meds in my system quicker? And things to try to manage this severe rectal pain? Do you ladies think I have done the right thing by choosing to carry on with this cycle? Is 10.2mm lining good?
Sorry for the long post. Thank you for reading. Think I just need some support right now.

Lots of water!!! Flush it out. Including juice. As for the endo pain try decaf green tea, heat pads? Water bottle on your lower half. Warm baths if you can? (May need ask doc about that one). I cannot really recommend any supplements as your having an embryo transplanted. But I can only say heat at the back. Around the clock until pain subsides. If not have you considered sorting the endo on your bowel? It may be the only way forward.
The only other thing as you have embies have you thought of a surrogate? I know it’s hard to decide and is costly. But your health is everything! If you have embies it may be an option???
Hi Minchoo thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the surgeon last year said bowel surgery isnt an option until I have tried /completed a family as the bowel is stuck to major organs and it would mean a full hysterectomy at the same time and colon surgery. So I had no choice but to move forward with ivf. I often think about surrogacy and as I have 13 frozen embryos, I dont know if I am going to be able to get through this and may have no choice but to stop everything or find a surrogate. How are you getting on? X
I honestly think you have done the right thing by continuing with the transfer.
I'm not a medical doctor, but I think at times these doctors scare us too much or even make a big deal out of something so that they can find something to blame if it doesn't work out rightly.
Endo pain is terrible and I fully understand why you have used pain killer. Since you have stopped this, I believe it won't harm your embryo . I don't think those meds stay so long in the body, if not they wouldn't ask you to repeat use after 6 or 8 hours.
Just eat well, drink plenty of water and go on with the transfer. Here is hoping you get a bfp at the end.
Thanks kumkums. I stopped from.this morning so I am praying that I get through this time with the pain and get to transfer. Its going to be tough but I dont think I can keep stopping and restarting a cycle with a bleed now. As good as these docs can be, I think todsy just made me realise that sometimes we have to make our own decision. After seeing the dr a bit lost for words I just thought ok let me offer this suggestion - to stop all painkillers and continue with the cycle. When he said I need to get on top of the pain before anything, i thought what exactly can I do? Im taking pain relief to manage the pain, how else do I even get on top of it.
Oh Im really sorry! I think the main problem is the anti inflammatories. It must be awful to get the kind of pain that you do. Can your specialist prescribe or suggest some heavy duty pain killers without an anti-inflammatory that you can have for future? I got told that paracetamol and codeine were ok to take but if your consultant says no then you best go with his advice. Hopefully when you go back for your scan it hasnt affected you lining too much, fingers crossed for you!xx
Hi Cinderella, really appreciate your reply. You support so many of us on here, just wanted to say thank you. The pain I get is something I cant even describe its do bad. Im not addicted to pain relief but I felt i needed it to be able to live a normal life and do my normal things. The dr was not keen when i said i was taking codeine and diclofenic. I know he is looking for prefection for my cycle and transfer but sometimes these drs dont understand what we are going through and what else is going on in our bodies. My dr just said i need to get on top of it whatever that means. I hope i can get through this pain. He said paracetemol was fine to take. Tuesday will indicate if lining is still looking good or not. I really hope I have done the right thing here xx
You're welcome, that's what we're all here for! I guess all the Dr's want the best result for us. Your lining at over 10mm is great so hopefully if you stop the hard meds now it shouldnt have too much effect for your scan Tuesday and if the consultant says its not looking great then at least you'll know and im sure he wont let you waste a precious embryo and its defo worth to try to wait till then to see for sure or you may have regretted just stopping the cycle. Good luck!xx
Thank you so much Cinderella. I feel better making the decision after reading some of the responses on here xx
I don't have any advice Hun but just want to wish you all the best. I also have severe Endometriosis... The pain in the past has been horrendous ( returning very quickly again after surgery too ) so I totally sympathise. I hope you win the fight & your transfer can go ahead. Fingers crossed for a BFP. Love & best wishes to you xx
Thanks summerrainbow. I feel for you having severr endo too. Hope your journey is going ok. I will fight as hard as I can hun. I wont let endo beat me and stop me from becoming a mum. Xx
Thank you summerrainbow. I will fight it as best I can so I dont regret anytjing afterwards. Xx
Oh wow cryst4l how horrible for you. Sometimes I do wonder if the Drs think after an appointment "Oh I wish I had made my face look less surprised" or "doh, I should have said x" - I know I do after meetings (a lot) and they are human too. It's great that you had the wherewithal to suggest what you did. I hope you get to go ahead with transfer and that this round works for you. Xxx
I don’t want to be negative but this happened to me last year so I’ll tell you my experience.
I ended up in hospital for pain relief following starting progynova for my FET. The clinic wanted me to abandon the cycle but I was determined as I’d done everything I could in my control (diet changes, better supplements, reproflexology, etc) to make it as successful as possible. The only thing out of my control...... my endometriosis. And I’m convinced that’s why the cycle failed and I ended up with a bfn.
It hit me very hard and I sunk into depression. I picked myself up and decided to try a natural fet which after much persuasion the clinic agreed to!
However my endometriosis continued to be a problem and my cycle is all over the place, which I am convinced is because of the hormones I’ve been treated with for ivf.
I am now waiting for surgery as an mri scan has revealed significant endometriosis, this explains why I’m in agony all the time.
My last embryo is waiting for me and I want to give it every chance.
You have to do what’s right for you but I want you to know what can happen.
Thanks Lizzie, congrats that wonderful news. I am still taking progynova for an ever better lining, how many days do they make you take this tablet? I thought 10 was good but dr said he wants it to get even better. X
My clinic were fine with paracetamol even after transfer so yes I think the diclofenac is probably more the issue (codeine isn’t as bad but gives you constipation so I don’t think that would help with your rectal pain!)
I think I’ve banged on about the power of certain supplements but magensium for all things menstrual and digestive is amazing. It’s a natural mineral we’re mostly deficient of and has a relaxant affect on cramps and the citrate version is great if you tend towards constipation (or in your case anything that would add to the rectal pain)
It’s great for period cramps too.
You can have magensium salt baths or sprays or you can take citrate version tablets.
It’s been a life changer for myself and many of my family members and patients. Hope it can help u too x
Hi Saya thank you for your reply.where do I get these magnesium suppliments from and are they natural/safe to take? Im desperate for any natural pain relief x
