I've been out of touch for a while and plan to write a little more soon... As part of my on-going investigations (implantation failure on a fresh and frozen ICSI cycle; now preparing for our second and final round), I am having a hysteroscopy next week - getting a little nervous and would welcome your views and experiences, hopefully not too scary.
Thank you.

I had a hysteroscopy last month and was awake for mine, it was bearable but some parts were slightly uncomfortable - I had a biopsy taken. The recovery was quick, after lying down in the hospital for a short time I went on my day as normal with minimal bleeding that day. Good luck for yours xx
Sorry you’re going through this, sometimes feels the investigations have no end.. I had a hysteroscopy earlier this month, mine was under general anaesthetic as they needed to tackle adhesions. I was only out for max 30 mins and felt wobbly with the GA for the rest of the day but slept it off. Very little pain from mine, just more of an ache after a day or two as my womb calmed down from it all I guess. Felt a bit like I was carrying a bowling ball in there, especially when I made the mistake of jogging slightly when I was late to get somewhere! Having it done under local is more uncomfortable than painful, like a longer smear or so I hear. Wishing you luck, and patience if it’s on the NHS - the most frustrating part of mine was all the waiting around prior and on the day! xx
Hey, I’m about to book an hysteroscopy too here in California. It’ll be in general anesthetic because they need to remove a polyp. From what I understood there are 2 types of hysteroscopy, operative and diagnostic. Mine will be operative because it implies a light surgery. I have done a diagnostic saline infusion sonohysterography (SIS) where doctor found the polyp. The Sis didn’t need anesthetic (just took Ibuprophene 800 1 hour before), but I must say it was a bit painful when the liquid got injected 3/4 times (like strong menstrual cramping). Luckily it didn’t last too long and had no side effects.
I had a hysteroscopy done in Nov last year along with implantation cuts. I think it’s good to have for further investigation and if you’re planning on doing another transfer within the next few months ask them about implantation cuts. As for the procedure itself, I was put under so didn’t feel anything. I was given some pain killers when I woke up and recovered within a few days. Xx
Hi I had my second hystereoscopy yesterday under GA it was fine you don’t know anything about it. I keep having miscarriages after ivf and theyvwanted to check there was nothing else abnormal.
They said it was all good and took some scar tissue away so I’m glad I had it done. We went private as I wouldn’t wait on nhs.
Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions xxx
Hi Missy_22, I hope you have recovered well after your hysteroscopy under GA - my procedure went smoothly on Monday but I still feel somewhat light headed. Take it easy for the next few days!
Hi esme, I’m having a hysteroscopy on Monday, I will be awake for it too, I’ve just been advised to take pain killers before. I’m feeling pretty nervous too!x
Hi Se99, I hope your procedure went well on Monday and you are recovering well. I had general anaesthetic and still feel a little light headed. The procedure was straight-forward.
Did they do or find anything? Mine went fine, it was painful but over quickly and I felt fine soon after! They didn’t find anything and said everything looks ok so I guess we just keep going x
