So I’m due my first laparoscopy with a hysteroscopy next Wednesday and I’m a little unsure of what to expect?
Already been told that my OH can’t come with me and wait so I’m worried about being alone as it’s the first time I’ve ever had a GA.
Am I just over worrying 🙈

Please dont over worry.. it will be over quickly..... once they put to sleep. Take some magazines/books etc whilst you wait.... pls dont over worry like i did xx

It is a big worry anything fertility related.....but the actual process of the lap isnt anything to over worry and stess about xx
If you join the endometriosis forum you can search people’s posts for tips on laparoscopy prep- i found the procedure itself fine but recovery took a couple of weeks (they’d led me to expect a couple of days) even though all they did was some minor ablation of mild endo.
Try not to worry too much. It takes a couple of weeks to recover so make sure you get the time off work-I'm a teacher and needed 3weeks. The day will pass in a Bit of a whirl wind to be honest,obviously you're completely unaware of anything once you're asleep and for a few hours after you will be pretty out of it. The amount of checks they do before hand-blood pressure, urine sample, name, DOB and talking you through what will happen mean you don't really have time to worry once you're in.
Have some heat packs, windeze and paracetamol handy for when you get home and a pillow for under your seat belt in the car.
Also, wear loose baggy clothes-i bought a pair of joggers in the next size up which were really comfy to wear home then lived in nighties for the first week.
For me the worst pain came a week after because my back had stiffened up from not moving about as much as usual rather than from the operation so try to keep moving gently about.
You will be absolutely fine- hopefully next week will give you the answers you are looking for...(oh take a pen and paper to write down what they say to you after because there's no way you will remember) x

I’ve had 3 surgeries which includes 2 laparoscopys and 2 hysteroscopys ( one done on its own and one with my second lap)
The hysteroscopy will look inside your uterus . If they see anything like polyps they can remove them. Sometimes they take a biopsy too. You might bleed during this procedure; I did and woke up to a pad between my legs oh boy I have no dignity 😂 they usually give you standard painkillers just before this to help eliminate any cramping you might afterwards. You may need pads as you might bleed a little and tampons can increase infection ; if there is a lot bleeding contact your GO as it could be a sign of infection. In all honesty this procedure isn’t that bad; many women have done without anaesthetic 😊
The laparoscopy will check for endometriosis; this is the only way to diagnose endometriosis. If it’s just a diagnostic laparoscopy you’ll have two incisions; one in your belly button and one above your public line; if it’s an operative lap ie they find something to treat such as endometriosis you’ll have three incisions. Depending on what they do diagnostic or operative will determine your recovery time.
The general anaesthetic really isn’t anything to worry about; i was worried my first op but realised I’d worried over nothing 😊The staff will be very reassuring and kind; they will understand your nerves and put your mind at ease. Going under sounds much worse than it actually is. They put a cannula in the back of your hand; you will feel a cold sensation going up your arm and you will have a mask over your mouth; you will feel sleepy then be out within seconds and the next thing you’ll know is waking up in recovery room; like no time passed it is weird😂 I found the staff wonderful and the nurses gave me painkillers when I needed them 😊 once you have seen your surgeon and can drink eat and pee you are free to go home 😀 I was under at half 9 and home by 2pm 😊
From a practical point of view bring an iPad/tablet books/mags in case you’re not first on list ; these can distract you 😊 you will need a dressing gown; the hospital gown aren’t great and here’s a heads up you can’t wear underwear for this surgery 😳 also bring slippers too to walk to theatre. Wearing comfy clothes is advisable 😊 you will need to rest afterwards ; bed rest for the first few days. You might have bruising and it might hurt to get up and about; i bruise easily tho 🤷🏼♀️Keep a close eye on wounds ; if they are too red , painful or leaking see a nurse ASAP ; I had a wound infection on one wound on my second lap as the stitches didn’t dissolve and my scab covered them causing an infection but I was much better after the antibiotics 😀 remember just because the incisions are small doesn’t mean the work they did inside you was. Take it very easy after surgery 😊 I felt capable of returning to work after two weeks; and I’d had treatment. But recovery is such an individual thing; listen to your body 😊
I had endometriosis removed from pod both times and unfortunately both times endometriosis was left on my bowel so I now need to see an endometriosis specialist that my fertility specialist knows for another laparoscopy probably. If it was that bad I wouldn’t entertain it ( I’m a wimp so if I can do it anyone can 😂)
