Hysteroscopy

I would like to encourage anyone who has multiple failed transfers to investigate if need be. My previous doctors were not eager for me to go for a hysteroscopy as I had a normal Hycosy scan, 3D scan and MR pelvis. I had 5 euploids transferred with no success and I insisted to have this done. And I am so glad I did.

Finally, we have an answer which might be the cause for implantation failure. We found a septum ( described as moderate in severity) around 1.5 cm in length which ranged from one FT orifice to the other. The whole septum is formed of scar tissue and had no blood supply hence an embryo could not implant there. The septum was excised completely and an endometrial scratch was performed.

We also had a uterine NK cell biopsy taken ( pending).

The doctor is convinced that it also affected our natural conception implantation as well. Such a relief to hear this. We are so fed up of hearing everything is normal.

I am also pissed that this was never picked up and that I had to push for this myself.

Please be an advocate for yourself!

Amazing, so glad they found this Blueberry - good to have an answer! As you say though, how frustrating nobody picked it uk before 😢 It's overwhelming sometimes, how many things we have to check to understand what's going wrong 😔 Hoping you're going to get some luck very quickly now 🙏 xx

Thank you 🥹 this time round we did not have a good round of embryos but I am so glad we found and corrected this. I wanted to encourage others to be proactive and challenge doctors decisions.I hope this makes a difference!

dear blueberry. I totally understand. I had a salpigram which I decided to do by myself and it showed a massive scar tissue blocking the entrance where sperm enters uterus. Then for husteroscopy and cleaned it out. I wasted two years too 😏 always read up and go with gut. Agree. Glad you found a reason and hopefully from now on will be ok xxxx

Hi blueberry I have just had my 5th embyro transfer on the 30th of January failed again..I wouldnt even know were to go in Ireland to have the test you mentioned. I attended a clinic recently who did a biopsy and said my uterine lining had 0 good bacteria I took a course of antibiotics and my good bacteria went up to 97% so I really thought this round would be successful. I would love to find a group that have experienced several embyro transfers and then had success....

Hello!! Which test are you referring to ? Is it the hysteroscopy? It is a procedure whereby you are sedated and they look into the uterus by a camera

Hi Blueberry,

Sorry to hear it’s taken so long to get an answer but also glad you pushed this! I was just wondering if you have any advice- I’ve had implantation issues and am being told unexplained infertility. I had my tubes checked/uterus check as part of NHS process. Is the procedure you had a more in depth procedure to check the uterus? Could such things as adhesions not be recognised during egg collections/transfers/Endo scratch etc? :)

Hello!! I am so sorry you re going through this. May I ask what test they did as part of NHS? Was it a hysterosalpingogram? Or a 3 D US?

Adhesions are not easily identified by ultrasounds or MRI. You need to have endoscopy or laparascopy to identify adhesions

Hey, I had an HSG to check tubes and they just checked overall uterus but not detailed. I also had an Endo scratch prior to a transfer but nothing has ever been said about anything being wrong. I recently had a biopsy for nk cells but nothing came back but I wasn’t sure if those procedures are similar to the hysteroscopy in any way? X

How was the endo scratch done? As it blindly by inserting a catether similar to a transfer? I had an hsg which didnt show the septum

Yes it was quite quick just a tube scratch! I think I’ll take advice from your post and ask my clinic about the treatment you mentioned. Thank you for your help and for posting to make others aware. It’s appreciated x

That scratch is different. Hysteroscopy is visualisation of the uterine lining and is used to assess for septum/ adhesions/ adenomyosis.

Glad I am of help xx take care

Sorry blueberry I I just seen your reply now I am going to ask a clinc to do a laparoscopy if it would help as I said they did a biopsy and said no good bacteria

Hi Blueberry, just the post I needed to see today! So I've just had my 5th cancelled cycle and the doctor has booked me in to be on the list for a hysteroscopy. I'm naturally super upset as it's another cancelled cycle, plus potentially a 3 month wait to be contacted on the NHS (although the doc did say it most likely would be a month until I was contacted. Then not sure how long before an appt...)

Did you have the hysteroscopy carried out privately? If so, how long did it take for you to book, have it, discuss findings and get to this stage? I am wondering whether to do this privately to save time. What are the next steps for you? Hope it all goes well for you!

Thanks xx

I booked it privately and could book it within a month as it is privately. I am waiting for uterine NK cells result to be able to plan the next embryo transfer

I'm having a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy next week to see if we can figure out why I keep having early losses so in a way hoping to find something similar so they can fix it and get out this hell!!

I hope the biopsy gives you further answer and good luck with the next transfer (or natural conception!) x
