Had my baseline scan today, 2.5mm & 20 follicles, nurse said I'm at risk of OHSS as so many. Anyone else had this and any advice? 1st Menopur injection went well apart from feeling extremely tired an hour later at work. How's everyone else coping with the injections at the mo? X

Risk of OHSS
Hi,
I was the same I had 25 follicles on the right and About 20 on my left, my left didn't really take so it was just my right and I had my embryos transferred yesterday, my ovaries were still quite large but all has been ok, so don't worry because if it looks like you will ohs then they will just freeze your embies and put bk in once ovaries have calmed down good luck with you cycle xxx
I had this with my first egg retrieval. Rest as much as you can and drink lots of water. I must admit I didn't keep up with my water etc and I don't know if that affected it or not but I ended up with some fluid on my lungs. Don't stress too much just make sure your clinic/doctor keeps an eye on you xxx
Hi, I was told I was at risk of OHSS also I was put on the short protocol with 100iui of gonal f.
I had scans everyother day and blood tests to keep an eye on my oestrogen levels, I ended up having 30+ follicles on my right and 20+ on my left- they explained to me that I might have to have a frozen cycle.
I had my egg collection Thursday, I had 17 collected, 15 mature and 11 have fertilised! And a fresh cycle will be going ahead (I know that wasn't your question but I was worried about this and was so happy I cried)
With the injections I felt pretty fine until just before egg collection (when we added cetrotide to the mix) when I was feeling heavy and very over emotional- actually at one point I was foul to my husband! Lol
The advise is to keep really well hydrated and eat lots of protein!
I would advise also to try and relax, have a bath, don't try to do too much- housework can wait, or your other half can do it! Haha
Sorry about the essay, and good luck! X
Hi Lucky17,
I was in a similar situation to you. I have about 40 follicles in total (27 showed at baseline scan), and at my tracking scan on Wednesday they mentioned that they were concerned about OHSS, particularly since I was having some mild abdominal pain and bloating. I also had some fluid showing around my ovaries.
At my tracking scan on Friday, they did a blood test for oestrogen and have advised that we still go ahead with the collection on Monday but they'll be freezing any embryos and giving my body a break of about 2 months to recover. I'm feeling very full and my ovaries are definitely delicate but apart from that I feel ok. Their concern is that if we proceed to transfer and become pregnant that the OHSS could become severe.
I was and still am disappointed to have to wait longer when I was so thrilled to finally be at this stage (it's our first course) but I know that it would be risky to continue and it's the right decision to wait.
I hope that you still manage to proceed but it's worth being prepared that you may be advised to wait, for your own wellbeing.
Injection wise, I hated the idea of doing them and got nervous every time I had to start doing a new kind (started with Gonal f, then Cetrotide and last night did my Buserelin trigger) but it very quickly becomes run of the mill. Definitely recommend using an ice cube to numb first
Keep us updated x
Thanks for your reply Busybee88, how often did you have to go for scans/books during Stim stage? Just nurse said not to have one wed, so probs be fri but that will be a full week since last scan and I'm thinking is this normal when you've told me I'm at risk? Xx
Hi Lucky,
I think it must be different as you're on long protocol?
I had my baseline scan on a Wednesday and then scans the following Monday, Wednesday and final one Friday. They easily could have skipped one to be honest as there was no news, it was just to check progress. It was at the Wednesday scan that they confirmed by EC would be the following Monday and at the Friday scan that they told me it would be freeze all.
I'm sure they know what they're doing but just give them a call if you're concerned x
Hi Lucky17. As the others have advised, you must drink plenty of water and rest when you can. If there really is a problem, they may decide to fertilise your eggs and store any suitable ones frozen for transfer later. Try not to worry should this happen, as your embies will be quite safe, and you need to get over the OHSS before continuing. Good luck with it all and I shall be thinking of you. Diane
Thanks for your reply Diane, just a bit concerned that clinic said I was at risk of ohss yet when I rang today for my dose of menopur and next bloods app they don't want me in for a scan, that will be a full week of no scans is that normal procedure?
