I have just had my EC. I was very nervous/excited and thankfully ended up with a lot more eggs than we anticipated (21 in total). The doctor has warned us though that this quantity of eggs could make me at risk of OHSS. Has anyone had any experience of this please or had as many eggs and gone on to not develop OHSS?
It seems as soon as you get over one hurdle there is another wait/worry to focus on! 😫 Xxx

Congratulations on 21 eggs, that’s a great number!
My last fresh cycle ended up with 16 eggs, I wasn’t considered I high risk, popped 2 back in at 5 days and ended up getting late onset OHSS when becoming pregnant.. I’ll warn you, it wasn’t pretty! I put on 4.5kgs of fluids and ended up in hospital for 3 days.. It’s gone down now at 7 weeks but it wasn’t very nice at the time..
I would go with the advice of your Drs but as I said, I wasn’t considered high risk and then went on to getting it anyways!
Thank you.. Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen.. How are you feeling in yourself? If you feel ok and your clinic doesn't have a set policy (ie no transfers after a certain amount of eggs collected) you should be ok.. For now, all you can do is rest up and take good care of yourself.. Xxx
I feel ok, pretty bloated but no different to how I felt before egg collection really. The clinic said they would transfer unless I developed OHSS and have given me meds to help prevent it and advised I drink plenty of water. Really really hope it all goes ok but I guess time will tell xx
Hi Bali. Well done with the egg collection, but make sure you drink plenty of water, and keep an eye on your urine output. It needs to be a light straw like colour. If it becomes dark or you become breathless, you need to be seen by the Doctor. Hopefully you will be OK, but if you get any pain, please just stick to paracetamol, unless something different is prescribed. Good luck for fertilisation and transfer. Diane
Hi I had 19 collected but had to freeze all due to OHSS risk. My oestradiol levels were 14,000+ and the clinic would not go ahead with a fresh transfer. Luckily we got 14 frosties from this round.
I felt really sore and bloated the day after EC; I only got mild symptoms that cleared up a few days later. Make sure to drink lots and rest.
Hi, I had 37 eggs at EC and didn't develop any major symptoms.
We knew the number would be high so mine was a freeze all cycle to begin with and my trigger shot didn’t contain HCG which I think helped.
I drank loads of water and lucozade, and rested a lot. The bloating and pain went away quite quickly and I felt loads better within a few days. Look after yourself and good luck x
Thanks for this. Day after egg collection and I still feel bloated and a bit sore. Hoping it will pass though and that I will be OK for transfer on Saturday! X
I had 33 collected and got OHSS although i was low risk of it apparently. I was off work unwell for about 6 days with huge bloating, some breathing difficulties etc. Then went back but was still not 100%. Drink plenty and rest up- your body has been through a lot! Well done on your EC! X
Thank you! I'm guessing it was pretty obvious from your symptoms that you developed OHSS? I feel bloated still and a bit sore after EC yesterday but hoping that is just standard x
It can develop a bit later so I think just keep taking it easy, drinking plenty of water and monitoring yourself. Hopefully you’re just experiencing normal after-Ec feeling. I had EC on Wednesday and was just sore and tender until Friday. Friday/sat I felt much worse, was more bloated and had breathing trouble on sat. So it was a few days for me. Do phone your clinic if you feel worse/ if you’re worried though. Xx
I think I had 27 collected. I was monitored very closely (I had to record my fluid balance for several days after EC) and was very vigilant in drinking lots of water.
I was well enough for a 5 day transfer of one embryo which is now my 11 month old boy. Just take good care of yourself and get checked over if you do feel unwell xx
