Just had a quick blood pressure check at my local surgery… 143/87. I think that makes me hypertensive. I will see the nurse in a couple of days but has anyone any experience.. how bad is this and does it mean I have to forego my planned Chinese takeaway and be a bit more urgent about seeing a nurse/doctor tomorrow? Or can it wait a couple of days?
My blood pressure at 10 weeks was fine

Hi. Can you check you blood pressure at home as BP is often higher than normal in a medical setting? Good to check it 3 times in a row ( with a short rest between ) to get an average reading.
Hi Bozo! Did they measure it again? I just had appointment with my obgyn. I arrived there on a bike, in a rush and my blood pressure was through the roof. She didn’t even wanted to tell me how high it was. They measured it again 20 min later, still high but not as much. When I measure it at home it is normal. Maybe someone from your friends or family has a blood pressure monitor that you can borrow? Usually it is lower in home setting.
Good to know.. wow don’t know the difference could be so much. I’ve just bought a monitor and will be delivered tomorrow. Hopefully if will all be normal at home🤞🏽 Thanks for your post and the info
Thanks 😃 I’ve had a very naughty few weeks so decided it might be time to start eating a bit more sensibly. Might as well heed the warning hey. Hope all is going well with you
If your nurse/midwife isn't concerned then hopefully you're ok and they'll just keep it under review, but do check. My BP's always been fine - low if anything - but show me a BP monitor in hospital and it goes through the roof. When I went in recently I was also very stressed with work and on my emails, they took my BP and told me to go away for 10mins and calm down as at the levels I was at they said they were admitting me there and then! Who knows what they were but when they repeated it (after an enforced 10min period of no work emails) it was fine again. I also got a 150/90 at one appointment and freaked out as I thought it was preeclampsia starting, but again the hospital nurses weren't concerned - I think they take other things like urine analysis into account, and the overall trend, and don't just go off one BP reading. Last few times I have tried to do a bit of deep breathing beforehand and levels have been fine. The midwives should start to check it fairly regularly for you soon but if you're worried, you could ask for your local GP nurse to do it.
Hi .. thanks so much for the insights.. it’s all new at the moment so I don’t know what to worry about and what is ok. My blood pressure was taken at my GP’s surgery with an automatic machine in the waiting area. You then take the reading to the receptionist who puts it in your file. I heard the receptionists debate whether to inform a nurse or not. I will now be seeing a nurse tomorrow afternoon and have bought a machine for home use as well so I can monitor it myself. Hopefully the elevated reading was just a result of being a bit anxious and annoyed 🤞🏽. Hope you are doing well xx
