Hi Natasha2012 I wondered whether you have an out of hours number for your clinic? Could you phone it and get some advice? Otherwise do you have a local EPU? You could also put a cyclogest in if you have any spare but I think I would try and get some advice from a professional to help reassure you x x

thank you for your reply . I’m currently sat in A & E and praying everything is ok . Just passed a largish clot 😔

That sounds like it was the best thing to do. Hoping all is well and you can get some reassurance, I know it must be a difficult wait x x

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It was a good decision to go to A&E; you're in the best place to get the care and answers you need. Sending you all the strength and positive vibes I can. Please keep us updated on how you’re doing. x

hi everyone . So no scan yet I’m waiting for that I might have to try and get a private one . I got told to restart my Cyclogest . I have no idea why I got told by my clinic to stop dead on 10 weeks . Feeling like I can’t move from my bed right now 🥺

What a nightmare. Do they think they can scan you today? If not, I would definitely go for a private scan. Sending you so much love and hugs xx

Hi Natasha2012, I couldn’t read this post and not reply.. I just want to say I’m sending you lots of love and wishes that everything will be ok. I’m so sorry that you’re going through this after the rollercoaster of a journey it has already been.

Hopefully you can get a scan today through EPU or private, I’m praying for a positive outcome 🙏🏼 xxx

I'm sorry you're going through this. Normally you can go off progesterone cold turkey as the placenta should have taken over earlier than 10 weeks, but clinics often taper I think in part because it makes us nervous to stop suddenly and also there could be side effects I guess from suddenly stopping any hormone after being on large doses for months. But it could be that the levels dropped suddenly and that has triggered bleeding - I had this on my first pregnancy even tapering off - it turned out to be ok and the pregnancy was fine as I was making enough naturally (just I guess not the levels my body was used to on the meds) but they said I could go back on the progesterone for the rest of the pregnancy if it reassured me (which it did). I hope if it is related to progesterone for you that it's something similar and all will be ok. Also, on another (unsuccessful) pregnancy, I had a private scan as I felt couldn't wait for the EPU referral and scheduling - it wasn't the outcome I wanted to hear but they were very sensitive and informed and it was actually helpful to have the scan report to get the EPU to see me and for them to see what may be going on earlier than spending hours in a waiting room. That one didn't involve any bleeding btw so not comparing it to your situation now, just that private may be a good idea if you're being delayed with the EPU.

did you take the progesterone right up until delivery ? I’m just in limbo now and a private scan would be until tomo anyway now so I’m better off waiting until my epu scan . Such a horrible experience xxxx

No not consistently right up to delivery. I went back on about 3 pessaries a day from when the bleeding started as I was panicking. I did have it investigated to rule out any risk to the pregnancy (including checking for cervical insufficiency/incompetent cervix) but that was all fine. The doctors didn't really give me any guidance on it as they said they didn't think there was a risk to the pregnancy so was up to me. I experimented a bit and found that an average of 1 a day seemed to stop the bleeding for me. I probably did that until around early/mid in the third trimester when I tapered off and I didn't seem to need it anymore. It was scary waiting to be seen and my NHS referral took ages as in that first pregnancy it wasn't a lot of bleeding and me going back on progesterone had stopped it, plus no pain or cramps etc, so I think they thought it was low risk from the start. If yours is quite a lot and/or bright red, or you're getting cramps, they should see you much sooner. It's such a scary experience, I'm sorry you're going through it.

Hope the scan was OK. I had a large hematoma (10cm) and started bleeding with blood clots 3x during the first trimester. The baby was fine and I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant.

So scary isn’t it - I bet you are so relieved . Did they say what caused the hematoma ? X

Yes, it was really stressfull. I thought I was having a misscariage every time. The biggest clot was the size of my palm. And I still check for blood when I go to the toilet. They didn't know what caused it but I was taking Baby asprin so it probably made it even worse. I had to stop for a few weeks.

thank you all for your messages - means a lot . I spoke to epu who can’t get me in unfortunately until tomorrow. So now I’m just waiting 😩 she said my hcg blood results yesterday taken were a healthy number and the fact I’m not cramping and it’s stopped is a good sign but I won’t know for sure untill the scan . She did mention blood thinners tho as I’m high risk for blood clots - no idea why !? Just praying everything is ok ❤️

How are you feeling? Did the bleeding completely stop? Keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hope you will get a lot of positive news and some answers tomorrow. I hope you are able to rest.

So sorry to read this. I’ve had some cramping a couple of weeks ago and then this past weekend cramping and some spotting.

Both my clinic and EPU said that the placenta should have taken over by now. I stressed about coming off it a couple of weeks ago so weened off rather than stopping cold turkey. Now I’ve had spotting they have said I meet their criteria (EPU) to be on it till 16 weeks if I choose to. I have started back on 1 a day.

I had a scan at EPU yesterday and baby is fine, wriggling away. Hope you manage to get a scan asap to out your mind at rest too xx

I have a scan at 1.50 at epu. I am beyond nervous , it’s a mixture of excitement and dread . Everything was going so well and then it was like something out of a horror film on Sunday. Looking at the bath and it turning a rusty colour . I had two large clots at the hospital come out , the doctor pulled one of them out and said it was blood as I did have to ask what it was . Interesting you have had some spotting since coming off Cyclogest , has it been red ? Unfortunately mine wasn’t spotting it was like a heavy period . I put in a Cyclogest pretty much straight away and have been 2 daily since . No more blood except for a tiny bit yesterday . Hope you are ok - I just feel numb as I was hoping to start relaxing with my 12 week scan next week x

just been to epu and baby is fine , measuring fine and hard to see as wriggling around so much ! 🥰 my bleeding however might have come from the fact I have an anterior and at the moment low lying placenta . Basically could be more bleeding and more complications for me. But for now all is well , thank you everyone for your messages. This place has always been such a source of support x

This is great news - you must be very relieved. But a scary thing to go through. On the anterior and low lying placenta, I had this on my second and it definitely can cause bleeding (in fact I think it normally does) and it needs careful monitoring and management so hopefully the hospital will be on to that. It's still early and most of the time the placenta moves up - mine did first time, but not second, although I think it's fairly rare for it not to. Just make sure they keep a close eye on it and PM me at any point if it would help.

Thank you so much - your advice has been so appreciated throughout this journey . I think at 20 weeks will be when it will be considered more of an issue as it should have moved up . The bleeding was awful but at least I know what it is if it happens again . 12 week scan next week when I get to see baby again ❤️
