Flu and Covid vaccines at 8 weeks

Hi All,

I’m looking for some advice/reassurance. I contacted my GP re having my flu vaccine and 4th Covid vaccine (have had initial and then 1st and 2nd booster). My nurse practitioner told me to have them as soon as possible. I’m 8w 5d today. However, when I spoke with the maternity helpline at my hospital the midwife said some people choose to wait until after the 1st or 2nd scan to have vaccines and to definitely not have them together. She also said it’s my choice. I am a teacher two days a week and over Xmas have plans to see friends and family. Therefore, I’m worried about catching the flu or Covid but nervous about getting vaccinated.

Has anyone else had vaccines prior to 12weeks?

Many thanks!

I had mine in my 2nd trimester....I wasn't comfortable doing it in my 1st - but this wasn't necessarily based on any evidence I think...

But I did read somewhere they initially recommended the boosters post 12 weeks - I could be wrong.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, my instinct says wait but am torn as worried about ‘flu season’ and Xmas mixing. I’ll keep thinking on it x

Advice is you can have them together.

Because some people get side effects and they can be pretty miserable in the first trimester, some people advise to wait till second trimester or have them apart.

I had mine apart for booking reasons- very annoying to book the booster locally!

Deffo personal choice.

I had both together at around 10/11 weeks. It was fine and scans have all been fine since, I'm now 22 weeks.

Good to know, thanks. Have been thinking and think I’m gonna go forth with them as NHS advise it and I think it’s safer to be protected. However, might try and have them a week or so apart.

My pharmacy wouldn’t do them together and I had to do them a week apart. I’m glad I did as I felt rotten after my covid booster but felt fine a week later after my flu jab x

I had my flu jab at 6wks as loads of germs around at work and was on prednisone so knew my immune system wasn't as good and all was fine. Need to book my covid booster but decided to wait until after 12 weeks when this nausea and general feeling awful is supposed to go away a bit!

I had both jabs together, can’t remember the exact week but I’m pretty sure it was towards the end of my first trimester. No side effects or issues, and I’m currently laying here waiting for my beautiful 4 month old boy to wake up for a feed. Less faff to just have both done at once, and better to be vaccinated early in my opinion. I got covid while pregnant and thankfully was ok x

I caught covid at 6 weeks it took 2 weeks before I tested negative, I've never felt soo ill in my life was absolutely awful, the only time I could taste anything was when I was sick with morning sickness. Had to wait for 4 weeks after my negative test before they would give me the booster. So had both the covid and flu at the same time at around 13 weeks had a dead arm for a few days from the covid booster but apart from that was fine. I would get it as soon as you can as having covid while pregnant is not nice at all. X
