I finally have a lap booked in for this month and just wondered, what if any prep you need to do before u go in? Food, drink etc and what I need to take with me. I've never had to go into hospital like this before and pretty scared about the anaesthetic!

Hi I had my first lap 4 weeks ago today! Depends on your op time but mine was 7:30am! So I wasn't able to eat of drink after midnight the night before I left hospital after 3 days and much of that time was spent sleeping and being pretty well dosed up on painkillers. I took a book but never got round to reading it but did flick through some magazine. I would suggest taking an ipod as well. Like I said it's one month today since my lap and I've been back on my feet for the last few weeks still using pain relief but extremely happy that I am finding my energy levels returning so soon! I wish you every bit of luck with your lap x
Hey x I went for my first lap 2 years ago and I was soooo scared about it, mostly I was scared about being bored in the hospital! How silly. I took a book with me and some magazines but I never had time to look at any I was in at 8am and out at 5pm. I get my next lap in just under 3weeks and the letter says to eat a few pasta meals the days leading up to the op because that helps to buildyou up.
Cant have nail polish or make up on and no hair accessories with metal bits on them.
Hi I have my lap Saturday so only days to go now! I have a pre op tomorrow and they will tell you what to eat drink and when to stop. I have been told no smoking 24 hours before op that's going to be hard for me I smoke more when stressed but have a battery e cig to see me through! Buy some peppermint cordial to drink after as helps get rid of the wind pain and read on here someone said take a pillow to hold on tummy for way home! That's a great idea I remember my last op desperately holding the seatbelt away from tummy as the slightest jolt hurt. Other than that I'm packing sanitary pads, a loose nighty just incase I have to stay in and loose clothes as your tummy will be blown up with gas and will be sore, ready to come home. I also read throat sweets are a good idea as you may wake up with a dry sore throat. I will take a book although I didn't read it after last op it was good while I waited before as had a couple of hours wait. My last op was a laparotomy so as I'm having a laparoscopy this time I'm hoping I won't be in long and home the same day but spare underwear and a nighty will be packed just incase.
I hope that helps and good luck with your lap x and don't worry about anesthetic its fine needle in back of hand and pre meds make you calm and drowsey, then you count backwards and have a lovely sleep and then when you wake you should get some answers to what they found and that's the bit I'm focousing on!
