Had my first lap yesterday and I definitely have endometriosis. The pain from all the air is just horrendous. How do you get it out?! I struggle to b&f at the best of times.
OH MY GOD!!!! THE TRAPPED AIR!! - Endometriosis UK
OH MY GOD!!!! THE TRAPPED AIR!!
Ive still got it...not quite 48hrs post-op. moving abt as much as possible, peppermint polos, peppermint tea or capaules are the answer! Other than that just waiting :/
How are you feeling?
What stage endo have you got? Did they manage any treatment?
This is such a rollercoaster.
Hope you feel brighter soon.

Move about, get walking every hour, just up and down the ward or the corridor, and fart and belch as much as you can. Sorry to be so graphic, but you gotta get it out by whichever end it reaches first. All the other surgery patients will be doing the same thing.
If you can get to the privacy of the loo, do stand up crouch downs, up and down or crouch down and rock back and forth. It ain't nice, but do what ever must be done. It's not a time to be a lady and hold it in.
I agree with Impatient & Lillil, moving about as much as you can will definitely help and you can't help where it comes out I was in hospital for 2 days and was very windy! I was so drugged up though I didn't really care! They gave me peppermint water which helped (and it was a nice change to just water). It'll work it's way out eventually, but I'm sorry that you are suffering so much in the meantime. I hope that it gets better very soon x
Hiya girls, They sent me home so no worries about the various sounds I'm making (or attempting to) I'm on it with the peppermint tea but I can't move about much yet. I feel like my insides are gonna fall out. Suppose l just have to be more patient. in answer to your question, I don't know what stage l am just that I had two bits at 10 & 5 5o'clock and he cut them out. out I was off my face when the doctor spoke to me and he just said we''ll discuss it when I see him in 6 weeks. I'm a bit pissed off really. Not sure where to go from here just concentrate on recovery l suppose. Xxx
A helpful tip my nurses told me was to try sleeping sitting up or at lease not laying totally flat. I believe that gave me some relief. When the trapped air moves into your neck and shoulders, it's the worst!!!! I wish you wellness!
The gas is the bad bit! I had 2 laps within 4 hours and had enough gas to keep me in agony for over 2 weeks. Last lap, so much easier, 2 days of pain and the shoulder pain but then on third day, I was virtually back to normal and able to walk 3 miles!!
Enjoy the enforced rest.

I'm so glad I've seen this. I've had a hysterectomy last week and that is when I was diagnosed with endo, I don't know what stage or anything but since I've been out of hospital I've had awful wind, so sore like being punched repeatedly, and slow moving. My family said that's just because its post OP wind because I was on the table for so long. but I thought that there w as somethingwrong with me! The only thing I found helped for me was walking about. But I shall be trying peppermint and rocking as moving seems to help, just tricky when you have fairly limited movement. Thank you and sorry for jumping on your post x
No problem jubro, glad it's helping someone else. The girls on here are life savers!!! The neck and shoulder pain is definatly the worst bit. I've taken to patting the side of my belly constantly too (like winding a baby!!! sort of) It seems to get things moving a bit. xxxx
Hi girls,
First of all, don't worry too much about moving around, I was on bed rest for a week and I could barely even walk to the bathroom! I was told to drink flat coca cola and boy does it work! I was up and about within 2 days after 4 bottles of it! Also a good idea, as previously said, is sit up when sleeping, not fully but so you are raised enough to be comfortable.
Hope this helps all of you!!
Good luck to all!!

Another quick question girls. I'm a bit swollen and starting to have pain where the original pain was now. This is around where the endo was removed. I presume this is normal? I got no info at all about what to expect after the op so I'm a bit freaked out. xx
Thanks for posting about this, I'm having my first lap on Weds so I'm a bit nervous. I've read about the trapped air and was warned at my pre-op about the shoulder pain but was told I'd be given pain relief for it when I leave the hospital. I shall definitely be buying some peppermint tea for afterwards, I don't like the sound of the flat cola though at least I know what to expect. I hope the pain eases for you quickly.

I know this is too late for you but I mentioned this to my doctor at my last lap (my 4th) She was a different doctor to the one who has done my previous 3 laps where I have always had a lot of pain. Anyway, I mentioned it to this Doctor who said that she always endeavors to get as much gas out as possible and then will also move the patient as well to get any last part of the gas out straight after the op. (I cant remember 100% exactly what she said but I think she moves your upper body whilst still under the anaesthetic ) so it is worth mentioning to the doctor before any lap to ask them to ensure they get as much out as possible. This last lap I had no pain whatsoever from the gas and it made such a difference.
The advice I've had last time was to move about as much as I could and to sleep sitting upright as possible.
Hope you feel better soon. x
oh yes the joyful pain of gas,,,your tummy...hips...bless you it will pass...and make sure to rest...i got an infection becos i didnt rest enough...xxx
