Bowl prep before lap? Can anyone enlighten me? X

Hi all, im just wondering if anyone has had a bowl prep before having your lap? Ive had 7 laps although ive now gone 2 a diff gyne who seems to be very good..he wants a bowl prep incase endo on my bowl or in? Abit nervous about this one, can anyone help? Xx

Hi Laura,

This probably won't help too much in answering your question, but i have endo on my bowel quite substantially and haven't had a bowel prep before but i know my consultant wants to look into my endo more closely soon after hormone treatment. Can you let me know what it entails when you find out yourself?

If you don't mind me asking what area of the country are you in because my local consultant is one of the highest regarded in the UK for treatment of endometreosis.

I am currently doing bowel prep as I type and c Mr Phillips tomorrow f my op. did u find out if u have it on ur bowel my symptoms for it on my bowel is pain when passing bowel movement n even pain just with stuff moving through my bowel. This bowel prep is killing me.

I've had it quite a few times, all I can say is yuk!!! ?

It tastes really bad, it kicked in for me after about an hour and keeps going until your bowels are completely empty so that there isn't anything in their way obstructing their view. I always struggled to drink it all, so I usually eat some choc lax earlier in the day to help it along.

Hi Laura,

I have extensive endo on bowel and had bowel prep before lap in Dec to remove.

It is not a pleasant experience but it doesnt hurt. I have noticed considerable ease since op, hope you will too. I had op in RVH Belfast. They were great.

Hi laura, its nice but its worth it in the end, the only thing i will say is make sure you have babywipes with you as you can get a bit sore. good luck hope it goes ok i had mine done 4 weeks ago. x

Hi Laura,

I live in Kent and see a Mr Hanson, so no chance of a change of consultant although i was born at the James Cook.

I had a major lap in November and i found out i had it in loads of places, ovary, abdomen, bowel, pouch of douglas, colon, appendix, around my uterus, lining of my hip and we have also found some in my leg now too. I'm not too sure how he found it all, but that's where he said there was some. He was instrumental in the move to keyhole surgery for endo so maybe he has a few tricks up his sleeve.

Thanx 4 all replies, well they dnt no exactly if on my bowel but hav a few symptoms so gyne wants me to have one just incase... what symptoms did u all have in connection with endo bowel? Ive had 7 laps now n no joy comes bk every time and had numourous hormone treatments, but my gyne has never looked into my bowel area, only upto the pouch of doug.. i had my left ovary n tube out with a LUNA last sep to help eith pain but still pain in same place??? Sick ov it...xx

I have had picolax before and it really isnt a problem - tastes unpleasant but often it is the fear of the unknown that is worse. I have usually had a great nights sleep after it as well. Last twice I have had eneama in hospital the morning of the surgery although this doesnt clear as far up the bowel.
