I'm hoping to hear some stories and gain an insight into how some of you have experienced the Merina Coil after surgery.
I was diagnosed with endometriosis earlier this year, and had surgery to remove from my uterus, and colon - as well as removing my appendix which had a mucocele due to a blockage caused by endometiral growth. The surgery was mid April, and in mid July I had the Merina coil inserted to help manage symptoms. I was under the impression that my consultant was hopeful that we could manage pain and heavy bleeding this way. Thankfully after four months I am seeing great progress with minimal bleeding - however this weekend I ended up in A&E with abdominal pain. I called the out of hours GP first, and they were concerned the coil had moved. After blood test and an X-ray showed I had no infection marker, and the coil is in its desired location - I was sent home with no further answers, and advised to speak to my GP/consultant again.
My treatment so far has all been through Vitality - aside from a prescription Mef Acid for management of the coil while it settled in via my NHS GP. I intend to call my GP on Monday morning and attempt to speak to someone. And hopefully Vitality will refer me back to my consultant. But I am looking for a little input into what other people have done if in a similar situation - to help me come up with what I should be saying and what questions I could be asking. Is there something you have found works in conjunction with the coil? Or is just limiting bleeding not to be considered a success and I need to be looking elsewhere entirely? I know were all different but I am feeling a little lost and down about what to do next...

You sound like you are tolerating progestin in the coil well (remember it's synthetic progestin not progesterone). Could it be something you've eaten that's caused a reaction or severe inflammation? Did you do excessive exercise in the run up to the day of the pain? I'd look at what you were doing lifestyle wise. Did you have alcohol for example? It could be a one off so I'd monitor your pain and mood until you see your consultant x
Hi,I'm not sure I have much in the way of answers but I wanted to let you know I'm going through a very similar thing right now.
I had my coil put in when having my laparoscopy and for me it took about a year to settle and then I had 6-9 months of pain free life.
However my pain returned with increasing levels each month so I went back to the GP as I knew that I needed help. They referred me back to gynecology and that took quite a while.
The gynecologist was surprised that I was bleeding at all for some reason. I know that it's possible to still bleed on the coil. However since the pain came back I made sure to thoroughly document when, how much and how long I was bleeding or in pain.
Personally I found that it doesn't line up my bleeding (what little it is compared to before the coil) is incredibly irregular to what I'm used to. My pain can coincide with the bleeds but also doesn't alot of the time. And I had some random spotting here and there.
So far I'm being trialed on more contraception as they want to see if that manages it. It's early days yet but so far it's not made the biggest difference although I haven't come round to a period yet so maybe then I will be able to tell.
I honestly didn't know what to do or what to expect at my appointment. I am coming round to the idea of just documenting everything but I find it hard to do currently due to fatigue. Gonna build it up bit by bit.
Your endometriosis sounds a bit more advanced than mine and lots of people on here mention the BSGE endo specialists it might be worth it for you to seek them out as they know their stuff.
I hope someone can give you more advice than I but I wanted you to know your not alone in this journey 😊
My gyny told me to stay on progesterone mini pill as well as mirena coil as the coils low dose so while it might reduce the bleeding it might not be string enough to manage pain. Mirena has been a success for me. My periods have pretty much stopped but a few months in I started to get pain again even with the mini pill as well. So my GP allowed me to start double dosing the mini pill. So far so good. We are all different but it has worked for me. Good luck
