Leaving job due to pain and hormonal issues following hysterectomy/surgical menopause

I had a hysterectomy in February for Adenomyosis and Fibroids. They said I didn't have Endo following a laparoscopy, mri and ultrasound. I have always had very painful periods and ovulation pains. Scans have always been clear. My pelvic pain has been considerably worse the past 3 years. Last year I was put on Prostap and add back hrt. The hrt flared the pain up so much, that I was signed off.Fast forward to now. I was painfree following the hysterectomy but the menopausal symptoms were brutal. I was started on Estrogel. The pain returned 6 weeks later. Severe pelvic and leg nerve pain. Gynae then said it must be microscopic endo as my pain is receptive to Estrogen and was switched to Tibilone. This helped slightly and reduced the pain but didn't help the menopausal symptoms. I have seen a private menopause specialist who has started me on Lenzetto (as it is weaker) and progesterone.

A month later and my menopausal symptoms are much worse. I am so anxious, panicky and am still having the pain. My mood is very low. Ive been signed off work and am rock bottom. I can't do this anymore but also feel bad as work have been so supportive.

Thanks, if you got this far 🥺 xx

So sorry that you’re having such a difficult time. I had a hysterectomy in a July for fibroids and Adenomyosis. I don’t have endo so I really can’t give any advice or insight in that area I’m afraid. The only thing I can suggest, if you haven’t already tried it, is cold water swimming/dipping. I’ve found this is the best thing I’ve tried for the anxiety and low mood which comes with the many other menopausal symptoms. It is a huge release, and very therapeutic.

Sorry to hear this? Why do you want to leave your job? What do you do?

I am also suffering with surgical menopause symptoms following my hysterectomy in late august. I am off work and have been signed off for 8 weeks (even though I was told that many super women go back to work after 2 weeks) and intend to go back early December as I do not feel ready emotionally or physically to return as yet.

I gave also like you had my hrt adjusted by a private consultant and have included testosterone to my regime which seems to have improved my mood and energy also. Early days but I am noting slight improvements.

I’m just wondering why you feel leaving your job is the best way?

sorry you’ve had such a rough time. Sounds like there is still some endo around and it needs removing.

With hrt I’d say ask gp to refer you to menopause clinic for advice. It may be a bit more lenzetto alongside the progesterone. But sometimes we don’t absorb oestrogen properly so it maybe a patch or tablet are better for you. There’s quite a few options to work through.

My mood certainly only got better on 3 sprays of lenzetto and 100mg of utrogestan after trying patches gel and tablets.

Even feeling better I did change roles as I had lost confidence in myself and could no longer do my senior role. I’ve since heard of lots of women doing this at menopause.

Look up progesterone therapy via Facebook page Balancing Hormones - it's run by Gemma Banks. X
