Laproscopy NHS

Hi all. I was diagnosed with adeno and endo 3 months ago using a pelvic MRI and put on dienogest which seems to be helping reduce pain. I have a few questions on laproscopy.

My gynae suggested she could go in to confirm diagnosis and remove endo if I wanted but we agreed to wait to see how well the meds worked. My private insurance tells me they will only cover laproscopy for the next 6 months so now I am looking for advice on:

- should I push gynae for surgery?

- if I wait beyond 6 months, will I ever get a slot on NHS?

- how much discomfort/pain should I expect?

- how much improved will my quality of life be if I still have adeno?

Advice please....

Hey, I’ve just had my first lap on the NHS.

I would say it depends on how much pain you’re in and how often. I had absolutely no choice as my standard of living was awful (pain daily, intimacy impossible, bleeding every day) but you will more than likely wait around a year for surgery on the NHS it’s worth comparing severity of symptoms and the need against that time frame if you chose not to use insurance.

Surgery was a shock I can’t lie, the first couple of days it’s a lot but with the strong pain meds it’s manageable. It’s just the inability to move a lot and do normal things. I also have Adeno so am worried I won’t see a significant improvement to symptoms (currently 6 weeks post op) still in pain daily at this point, hard to know if/when I’ll see the benefit but for me it was a must try as I was desperate. Really is different for everyone!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like it was the right choice for you. I wish you a smooth recovery. Please do post about how you get along in the future.

I am in tolerable amounts of pain and since I work freelance from home and do not have a partner/dont want children, I think I am probably ok to let the insurance 6 month timeline slip and resort to NHS as backup if needed in future.

On pain, my experience has been a bit different from what I am reading on this forum. Since I was young, there were always 2 days I couldnt leave the house in a month due to extreme pain (better on Yasmin). In last year, I have had persistent moderate vaginal pain ( gynae says it is referred pain?) with minor levels of back pain and tummy ache, albeit lots of fatigue. Vaginal pain now only in ovulation and period week since I started dienogest. Grateful it has been manageable and hoping it improves
