Pelvic MRI

Hi warriors, for those who have had a pelvic MRI did you get the contrast? Also interested to see if anyone had results that showed bowel endo? This is why gynae have referred me for this scan as our waiting times for laparoscopy as so long and I’m having worsening bowel symptoms. Any reply’s appreciated, thank you 💛

Hi.

I’ve had a few MRI’s, one privately which was done with dye and rest on NHS without dye.

They have shown some of the bowel endometriosis, but to be honest they’ve never shown anywhere near as much as what has been seen during each laparoscopie.

So while the mri scans sometimes show some of bowel Endo the most definitely do not show it all.

Prior to being diagnosed with stage 4 i had a scan that barely showed anything, when my consultant did first lap he had to stitch me back up and said “it was one of the most severe cases he’d ever seen and I’d have to have a planned extensive surgery later on”.

I was getting all anxious yesterday about my specialists planning what will likely be my final surgery (due to extensive scarring) based just on their mri findings, when I know full well how much more extensive the disease is inside compared to what is seen on mri.

Hope that makes sense.

I’m sorry you’re experiencing the bowel symptoms, it’s very unpleasant and incredibly painful.

Best wishes to you ❤️

My NHS scan was done without contrast and without bowel prep. Completely missed the severe rectovaginal endo that was found and excised at lap.

my deep infiltrating endo was diagnosed via MRI without contrast. I’m due to see an endo specialist in august , as I was having mri prior to hysterectomy. Now endo has been seen pelvic and attached to sigmoid colon and rectum , ovaries and fallopian tubes general gynae have discharged me so a specialist can do op instead. I have had bowel issues for many years, I think it’s likely the endo is further into the bowel but will find out for sure in surgery.

I had my pelvic MRI last week.

No contrast needed, but was offered Buscopan injection. I didn't need to do any prep, was just advised to keep hydrated, then go to the loo to empty bladder before the scan started.

Can I ask, did you go into the scanner feet first? And was your head out? I’m claustrophobic and getting myself all nervous for Monday x

Mine was pelvic mri I went in feet first , they give you headphones to wear with music, I’m asthmatic acc don’t do well in enclosed spaces, just kept my eyes shut and did box breathing exercises and calmed myself down within about 5 mins they give you a little alarm on your hand you can squeeze if you need to speak to them. The buscopan they give you is to reduce your bowel mobility so the pictures are easier to see.

It was pretty awful I won’t lie but I kept my eyes closed the whole time which helped. I was in the scanner for an hour and 10 mins so seemed a long time. Just waiting for results now 🤞🏻 x

Ah bless you, it’s not the nicest experience you were in the same amount of time as me. Fingers crossed your results give good clear info
