How likely is it that bowel endo will show up on an mri? I had a colon ct that’s apparently clear so now they are suggesting an mri. I have constipation then diarrhoea and blood and mucus on my stools and very bad right sided pain. Have had hysterectomy with ovaries left in and further excision on right side peritoneal wall.
I want answers like everyone and a plan of action. Don’t know how much more of this daily pain I can cope with. They suggested taking out my ovaries next but am worried even that won’t solve it. Exhausted with it all. Sorry for rant x

Hi lovely,First of all I'm so sorry to hear about your pain and suffering.
So while my endometriosis isn't in the same places as you, the way I got it diagnosed was through a pelvic and abdominal MRI with gel to show the contrast. However, what I was told by other women who had done this exam and found out their diagnosis is that it needs to be with a Dr. that knows how to spot the endometrium cells, plaques and fibrosis, because not all gynaecologists even know how to. So I would say an MRI can definitely be a way to get a diagnosis (esp. if it's as severe as you're sharing), but it has to be with a good referenced doctor that takes endo seriously and is trained to spot it.
Also truly hope the cirgury isn't the only way out as if it's endo the condition is very like to still be there after. I would recommend a holistic gyno, but I'm new to the UK health system and don't know anyone...
Thanks for replying, It’s good to know you had a diagnosis this way. I had a ct bowel scan which is clear so now this is the next thing. It’s one thing after another. I am at a BSGE centre so they should hopefully know what they are looking for. Fingers crossed. Xx
Where di d you get your scan done ? I have hared that it makes quite a difference if the scan is done with contrast or not. I have also been told that a sonogram is better for this stype of endo as the operator can move the area and actually see/feel if there is attachment.
Why are there no rules for what is best practice about scans for endo? I think thescans are pretty important surely if contrast is important everyone should be using it or if TV or TR ultrasound can check more easily whether the bowel is attached that should be being used.
As it is loads of women are paying a great deal for scans which might not be much use. This field of medicine needs someone to step in and establish best practice protocols across the board.
I've just had an abdominal MRI, already knowing I have endo on my bowel after a lap. My (private) consultant has since turned round and told me there's nothing there even though I know there is and he's got all my hospital notes. Hopefully you have a better outcome if you have one done x
It’s so frustrating when u know there is a pain in a specific area and they don’t find it. I could literally go in with a scalpel and pin point it. So what happens for u now as if it was found on a lap it must be there. X
Exactly, I've been told the majority of my endo pain is where my bowel and uterus are stuck together and for him to turn around to say there's nothing there was a bit worrying. I've scheduled a face to face with him next Wednesday to talk it through, as I'm not sure how safe I feel in his hands now! x
That's terrible to hear you don't feel safe. I am trying to build a picture of poor practice national. Plaese can you contact me privately to let me know more details?
I had mri recently and it showed bowel endometriosis. Whole sigmoid colon covered, right kidney etc so it can show. Was told if adhesions are deep enough it shows.
There is hope then, I had my appt thru today for Nov 11th, can’t believe it as it was only yest it was discussed. I just hope it gives me an answer and a way forward. What are they doing about your endo? X
