Can the Depo injection have an impact on the outcome of a laparoscopy?

Hi everyone. I’m booked in for a laparoscopy on 9th December and, by chance, I already had an appointment booked for the Depo injection the day before. I’ve been on the depo for about 6 years. Just wondering whether it can have an impact on what is shown in a laparoscopy and whether I should cancel my depo appointment with it being so close to my surgery date? Any advice would me much appreciated 😊

I’m also very nervous about them not finding anything after nearly 18 years of struggling. I’d hate to be left with no answers, especially as my parents are helping cover the cost of it.

Hi

I had Zoladex in between first lap and hysterectomy. I did six months. Report after lap mentioned he could feel it in the bowel and on the bowel, although I think he removed that. The MRI didn’t show anything and Endo expert went by that and didn’t have bowel surgeon. No one since has mentioned Endo in the bowel so whether Zoladex did anything I’m not really sure. This probably doesn’t help much.

Have you had a scan to see what’s going on? Although a scan isn’t a total representation of what’s going on it might help to check first. Is surgery with an Endo expert? It’s really important the surgeon knows what to look for and you trust they do especially if you are paying for it. The first surgeon I had wasn’t a registered expert but he knew what he was doing and was great.

Thanks so much for your reply. I have a lot of bowel symptoms but the surgeon said if he finds anything that needs doing on my bowels he won’t be able to do anything at the time and will have to refer me to a bowel surgeon.

I have had a scan but nothing showed up. Haven’t had an MRI as he said it was better to go straight in for a laporoscopy if I’m paying and have a strict budget.

I think he’s just a general Gynaecologist but it says online he specialises in a list of 5 things (including ‘pelvic pain and endometriosis’.

I really hope that the depo injection have an impact on what will show up. I don’t know enough about it to know whether it can or not.

If I could go back in time I’d have had an MRI before any surgery. I paid £400 for a two part MRI, shop around if you did decide to.

I would make sure if you’re paying they do actually know about Endo properly, if you are paying you don’t want to waste money. The surgeon I paid did know about Endo but wasn’t registered BSGE, the second one on NHS, was but failed to have a bowel surgeon so it’s still hit and miss 🤦‍♀️🙄
