Depo and anger

Hi, I've been on the depo birth control for around 9 months. When I first started it was so angry, and now I've noticed when I'm about a week away from an injection I am just so angry, no real reason, zero patience and it just feel so unlike me. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Giraffegreen. It might be progesterone intolerance. I am meant to take desogestrel but even after only a day, I feel disagreeable, not myself and can't really function on it. Do you feel better further on from the injection?

Not really I'd say my mood is more erratic than when I wasn't on the depo, It's very up and down one moment I'll feel okay then I will be crying, I'm getting frustrated quicker and just sorta low. I actually desogestrel for around 6 months in my early twenties but I stopped because I bled the whole time.

I was thinking it might get more tolerable the longer you take it - it's a shame as I think it does help. Natural progesterone was not good either. I'm sorry I can't be more positive. Take care.

Hiya. Yes I literally had this conversation with my boss a week ago. She asked if I was OK and I let rip.'No! One minute I'm ready to break this snot nose stuck up clients neck, and ten minutes later I want to cry but I can't because I'm with a client!'

I'm on Depo and I'm only like this when the Depo injection is wearing off. I'm also suicidal as it wears off. I eat whatever I want, drink whatever I want and hide under a heavy blanket when I'm at home. I know it will pass when I get the next one.

But I had my next injection today. I always take today off work to let it settle. And I know I'll be back to being super woman for another couple months.

I didn't use to be like this. It settled down when my injections were regular. I was on Depo for 10 years with no issues whatsoever But a nurse started messing with my timings and I've been a mess with it since.

I don't have any other options just now. And the Depo works for me better than not having it.

You could ask about Seyenna Press which lasts longer so the mood swings are further apart.

I completely get those feelings, I do use the sayana press but I find it easier to refer to it as depo cause sayana isn't avaliable everywhere. I doesn't really work for my endo either is partly the issue as well so I'm moody and in chronic pain. The only thing it has done it stop my periods. Did you have no issues with your bones using it that long? I read you could only use it for 2 years

I'm sorry you are in so much pain😢You're absaloutely right. It's not recommended to be used more than 2 years for bone issues. And no more than 5 years for smokers I had this read out to me like a police arrest regularly with every change in nurse.

However there's no other option for me. I can't have the arm implant. I can't have the coil. I can't absorb the pill. The sayena press I bled straight through. Figure that one out as its supposed to be exactly the same as the Depo proverera as you know.

I said to the gynae if they have any other option go ahead 👹 but the next step is GnrH which is 10 times worse for bones as it switches everything off. And I've no faith at all in them handling any HRT add back.

All that said my Dr put a block on all nurses flagging me up on alerts as I'd never been healthier than on the Depo.

I was always aware I needed to provide evidence the medication was safe and I was working with it for bone density. I was weightlifting for fun. And cycling 100 miles a week for work and I always kept up an active work/ life balance. I'm not kidding when I say the Depo makes me superwoman. I was working 15 hours a day and chopping logs one weekend a month to supply 2 households with their main source of heating.

I've moved from that place now. I've switched to just sports now to keep up bone density.

And yes I've just won the 11 month battle with this new medical practice to keep my injections at 10 weeks. Without the injections I can't live on my own, I can't work, I can't get out the bathroom. I used to collapse in the kitchen. My mum used to find me passed out on the kitchen floor and leave me there.

The poor nurse I was supposed to see today refused to see me. She passed me on to another nurse because on my first visit she refused to do my injection and she set of the battle for my survival and I won.

Oh wow! You do sound like super woman, I'm glad you found something that works and you're fighting for it! I've definitely learnt with endo you've gotta be your own advocate! I tried pills and they made me feel emotionally distance from myself, I tried the coil but I nearly lost the first one and the second I felt like I could feel it in there and the pain and blood was unbearable.

The sayana I think I'll stop tbh I dunno what that means next for me but ultimately its making me feel angry, like I'm always on my period and pain wise I'm at the point you mentioned where I can hardly make it to the toilet.

I got offered the GnRH but passed on it too because of bone density (I struggle to be active) and HRT risk I know they say no risk to breast cancer but I have a strong family history and I'm still young I have too my questions to just go ahead.

I'm really glad you found what works for you! Fingers crossed I can too

I hope you get sorted soon. Have they offered you anything like amitriptyline (sorry I can't spell lol) it's meant to block nerve pain and work as an anti depressant. I hope they sort your pain out.Personally I feel if they won't operate to help give back a quality of life then everybody has to make space for our moodswings 😁 I'm quite cheeky like that now. If they know moodswings are hormonal and they offer it as the only treatment, well they need to put up with the response to their actions.

😇

I was told I couldn't take it because I experienced quite bad side effects from a drug that is sort of similar. Tbh I'm quite sensitive to all drugs! Yes! That's true they have to expect it back if hormonal is all they offer can't all be smiles and rainbows
