I am now having my second period post surgery. I was on the combined pill but switched to the progesterone only a couple of days before my period started.
The first period was extremely painful, and I was hoping that the second would be not so bad.. but i was wrong.
Can anyone tell me when they start to get less painful periods after surgery? i had most of the Endo removed In january, apart from a small amount on my bladder that would have required a larger surgery process.
Thank you and appreciate all the support here <3

I was diagnosed last year, through laparoscopy surgery, and had patches removed and tested. Unfortunately my aftercare experience wasn’t great, and I left hospital not knowing what I’d had done. But after a long conversation with my surgeon and a long list of questions again a few months later (after my periods not becoming any better/less painful), he explained to me that unfortunately, removal of the endometriosis tissue, doesn’t necessarily stop the pain and may not even reduce it, as they can’t always see all of the endometriosis tissue, and it becomes embedded below the muscle lining (deep endo), meaning that they can’t access it without causing further damage. Some peoples periods do improve over time, but I’m coming up to a year after my surgery date, and I have had no improvements, still extremely heavy, very painful, the only pain benefit from the surgery is I don’t have a sharp stabbing pain near my hips anymore. I’m sorry if this isn’t helpful/what you wanted - but I hope it helps a little bit. And I do hope that yours improve.
No way.. I can't say my aftercare has been the best either (and I went private!).. I had one follow up and that was it. I did email my consultant the other day before posting on here, and she just replied saying that my new pill could take some time to get used to.. she didn't really mention the surgery after effect.
Thank you for the info though. At least I know not to get my hopes up expecting a pain free period!
I honestly felt so alone after my surgery, it was very bizarre, not knowing what they’d done or what affects it would have on me. But I then emailed the hospital directly after a few phone calls and placed a complaint about the aftercare (it wasn’t really a complaint I just wanted information but could only email a complaints system) I then got a phone call with the surgeon and he was suddenly extremely helpful & informative. Its extremely hard, because I think we all hope that surgery will fix us, and when it doesn’t have the affects we hope for it almost feels like a grieving process, but honestly I’d advise the Maca root, I ordered my from Holland & Barrett and take 3 capsules a day, it’s definitely helped regulate my periods and the pains aren’t as bad, but I’m about to try a different tablet for the flow/clots as I’m still extremely heavy, so if they work I will update you!
I know how you feel.. I'm so glad I found this forum where you can ask people who are going through the same thing some questions.. I actually have some Maca Root sat in my cupboard! But I haven't started yet because I have IBS and going through a bad spell with it, so don't want to add anything to the fire. Did you have any side effects with it?
it’s honestly so nice to chat to people that understand, I only signed up to this a few days ago, but it’s really nice to know there’s other people out there that feel the way you do and can relate to you! Honestly for the first 2 weeks I felt a little nauseous (was never actually sick) but it wasn’t bad, just afternoon time, but since then, I’ve gone back to normal and had no other side affects. I’m not usually into herbal/natural remedies, but I do really rate this. I hope that settles down and you start to feel better soon!
