I have my second surgery tomorrow and just to add to the pain I’ve come on my period tonight. Now I’m in an anxiety spiral, will they still do they surgery? I’ve worked myself up for it now!

period and surgery tomorrow!
Hey,
Try not to worry. Yes, they will still do the surgery.
This situation happened to me the night before I had an investigative op & D & C.
Just let the nurse/s know when you arrive for the op so they can note it on your file for the surgeon.
I’ve found that to be easier since sometimes they ask you toremove your underwear for theatre depending on the type of surgery.
I had to say “no thanks I’m on my period!!”
That may not always be the case for laparoscopic surgery, but often is.
Just ask nursing staff or surgeon questions if you have any more worries & I wish you a quick recovery!
Please don't worry. Its actually better to have surgery while you are having your period because if you're bleeding so is the endometriosis. When they view it under the scope it will show up as red or deep black and will be easily spotted so they can remove everything the see. Although its a bit icky to be on before surgery, it is really good for surgery and for spotting endo for the surgeon. Also any gyny surgery that will disrupt the uterus and may start bleeding anyway, so when you come back from theatre, often in recovery you will notice they will have given you pad to wear after surgery in case of post surgery bleeding, despite whether you had vaginal surgery or not. Just let the nurse know first thing in the morning and she will give you a sterile surgical sanitary pad to wear going down to surgery. No problem. Good luck 👍
yes they will go ahead with it, just let them know. If it’s a laparoscopy then you’ll have a pad after anyway and they sometimes give you paper knickers before but if you’re more comfortable with your own then just let them know you’ve got your period and that you need to take them off before you go down to surgery. Most of the time they wheel you down anyway so you can have a pad between your legs and no knickers and a blanket over you. The surgeons are used to blood so don’t feel embarrassed or worried. Good luck x
Yes. They did my lap when I was. You might just need to check your pad placement when you come round. I remember saying to my husband that it didn't feel quite right. When he had a quick peep under the blanket, we realised the MALE surgeons had put a pad in pants for me, but in the same way that one might stick a flake in a 99 icecream. So I had to shuffle off to the loo to sort it out. 😄 Good luck for the operation. x
