Dienogest vs Zoladex

Hi Everyone,

I have stage 4 endometriosis and Thoracic Endometriosis. It’s in my pleura adjacent to my vena cava and several places on my diaphragm.

I’m on the mirena coil since December 2021 and was taking the progesterone only pill (cerazette) on top for the last couple of months. I became pregnant and miscarried early whilst having the coil. I’ve got my period despite taking the pill on top.

My consultant has put me on Dienogest instead of the mini pill. It made me feel like an absolute psycho, my bleeding on it has been absolutely horrendous, hasn’t been this heavy since my first post partum period! I’ve been advised by another consultant that he is going to put me on the Zoladex injection (monthly at first) and instroduce HRT with it from the second month.

I’m waiting to see a consultant who will be able to deal with my thoracic endometriosis around the summer time.

I don’t know what to do! Everything I read says Zoladex is the worst thing to do etc etc and I feel so torn. Dienogest felt really awful. I’ve stopped taking the thing 2 days ago after taking it for only 9 days and already I feel better!

Please could you tell me your experiences of what you found better out of the two?

Hi there,

I also have diaphragmatic endometriosis, the coil and started on Dienogest. I stopped taking the Dienogest after a month because of the effect it was having on my mental health. It did seem to stop my pain but it just wasn’t worth it for me. I haven’t tried zolodex - maybe I will at some point. Good luck on your journey xxx
