I had a hysterectomy and oophorectomy in june, along with a bowel shave and excission.
In the last 3 weeks ive found that if I need the loo for a number 2 I need to go immediately and have had alot of pain in my pelvis before hand, similar pain although not as intense as pre surgery.
Has anyone else had a bowel shave, how long did it take to recover? I did think I was ok, until the last 3 weeks. Is some issues normal?
The bowel shave part of my surgery has always been played down really as not that big of a deal, like it was normal. So I dont really know what it entails or how impacted my bowel would be necessarily.
Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear that you’re dealing with this! I haven’t had the same operation as you but I have had an ovary removed, huge cyst removed and adhesions/endo removed from my whole left pelvic area, including part of the bowel. I’ve suffered with the same issue you’re describing, with an incredible sense of urgency (and also incredible pain with it too). A few thing numerous doctors have suggested/tried:
1. They first thought that it was SIBO (bacterial overgrowth) caused by adhesions from the surgeries. For this they gave me antibiotics and it did ease things very slightly. Might be worth considering this.
2. I was told time and time again that it was just IBS but I knew that there was something more to it.
2. Because the antibiotics didn’t help significantly and I was confident it wasn’t IBS, there was concern that the endo had come back and was on the bowel. I had another surgery to confirm this and it was infact covered in endo again.
3. After endo removal I was still having bowel issues (not as bad but still uncomfortable and urgent) so I have now looked at alternative remedies. I’ve been seeing a homeopath for about four months and this has been focused on healing my body after all the surgeries and no longer surpressing symptoms. It seems to be working very well and month by month things are getting better and better.
Hope this gives you a few thoughts and bit of reassurance that there is hope.
