Advice of bowel shaving please x

Hi all, long story short,I'm petrified that my op is going to leave me with a colostomy bag. Stage 4 endo, lap last August,op on 19th April with colon shave I think. If you had this how long is the recovery, I barely eat now because I can't stand the pain. Codeine or tramadol most days, my relationship has broken down because of this. Decapeptyl over the last 4 months hasn't helped. What should I expect please ladies? Xxxx

Hey,

Sorry to hear you’ve been through so much. I had my bowel shaved two weeks ago (that’s such a strange thing to write!). I can only speak about my experience but it’s been really good. I went to a specialist endo centre so a bowel surgeon was involved too. They were very clear that if anything more involved than a shave was required it wouldn’t be done in that operation. T

Sure, there’s risks with any operation but it’s rare and they’re used to doing this stuff all the time. Hope it all goes well & let me know if I can help with anything else.

Thank you for responding, I feel so alone.Yes I have recto specialist involved, never met ,but the gynae team have said worst case scenario is a bag. I suppose I'm looking for reassurance that its it's not so bad

You’ve got all the right people involved then. Ask to speak to the other specialist if you’ve got questions. I had a quick phone consultation with mine. You should meet them in some way if they’re going to operate.

Hi, I had forgotten about this post. Good timing to be fair as I had a consultation with 1 of the gynae MEN last week. My surgery went well, I was in theatre 3hours, remaining tube removed, bowel checked and endo excision ( lab confirmed as endo ). First few months were ok, but I now have nerve pain in my hips and legs, still taking Naproxen and codeine daily, my gp took me off tramadol a few weeks ago. The consultant basically said they removed all endo, I asked about it regrowing and he said it would be decades WTF !!

Apparently the outside of the bowel is ok, it may be that I need a referral to get the inside checked ???

Also referral to the pain management team, I showed him my pain and meds diary, I dont need help managing it. Basically Ive been fobbed off and handed back to the gp. I will be going to see the gp next time I'm properly suffering and demand more investigation.

Sorry it isn't much help, I hope your journey is better xx
