A week post op - first laparoscopy

Struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Fed up of being bored. I try and do something for myself, like go for a very short walk and it’s like taking 1 step forward, 3 back. At the time I feel absolutely fine, but the next day I’m in agony and struggling with nausea and feeling rough.

Also, I’ve been on my period for 4 days now, it’s wiping me out. Did anyone get their period so soon after, if so, did it last longer than your usual periods? I was due on anyway but came on two days earlier and to be honest, this is no where like my normal period. They usually last around 7-10 days but lighten up on day 4/5.. feeling so fed up.

Hi singingelephant

I can totally understand your frustration with being so sedentary after surgery. A walk in the fresh air is brilliant for lifting the spirits, but it's more important to let your body heal properly at this stage.

Everyone's recovery after surgery is different and it's well worth a few more days of boredom if the payoff is better internal healing.

Focus on eating well, drinking plenty of water and planning some lovely things to do when you recover. Wishing you all the best x

Thank you for your lovely response. I ended up going to the GP and she’s given me some more pain meds, definitely helping me feel a little more normal! Hope you’re well x

Hi,

I’m three days post op and feeling awful. People kept telling me I’d be fine after a couple of days and that it didn’t really hurt. It’s confusing because they tell you to watch out for signs of infection. I’m dizzy and nauseous with no energy and no idea I’d that’s normal or not because everyone I’ve spoken to said it’s a simple procedure which heals quickly!

Have you had any improvement since your post? Xx

Hi lovely! So I am still getting some pain from my tummy, I’m taking naproxen and paracetamol regularly. The trick really is to keep topped up. I finally started feeling somewhat normal around day 9/10. I am still unable to do a lot though. It really takes it out of you. I found that if I over did it (I’ve been home alone since day 2), then that’s when I really suffer with feeling sick and exhausted. Although it is keyhole, it is still major surgery as my mum keeps telling me haha! I hope you start to feel normal soon. Make sure you rest with lots of fluids. Every hour or so, get up and have a slow walk around the house, movement helps. Best of luck with your recovery and I hope they gave you some answers!xx
