Did you ovulate straight after first period following laparoscopy and excision of endo?

Just wondering what to expect, had my period 9 days post op, lasted 6 days and was heavy and painful for the last 4 days of it. I’m trying to track my ovulation with OPK’s and don’t appear to have ovulated yet when the app I have is telling me my peak day in my fertile window was yesterday. Does the lap and excision mess the first period and chances up of conceiving? Any experiences or advice welcomed!!

Hi,

You're like me. We are trying to conceive. My endo has been diagnosed because we have been struggling to get pregnant and they found cysts. I had my first lap end of Nov 2021 to remove a large endometrioma from one ovary, drain a cyst from the other an generally 'tidy up' and remove visible endo. All went well.

My first period post-op was sooner than expected and longer. Then I had a much shorter cycle and no ovulation (I was tracking and worried about this). Next cycle ovulation came really early (d8) wasn't even sure I'd detected it properly. But then the next cycle ovulation felt much more normal. I texted my surgeon about my cycles and he reassured me that you might expect them to take a couple of months to settle.

If you're like me and you've been ttc for a while though this feels really frustrating. Especially as everyone tells you anecdotally your chances of conceiving are higher immediately after your surgery. I'm just trying to stay hopeful but every cycle is a rollercoaster.

I really hope your cycles start to settle down again too xx

Thank you so much for your experience of this. All my consultant has told me at the moment is that I had a lot of endometriosis and that he’s drained a Dermoid cyst and also freed it from the wall that it had fused to. My period has been exactly the same as your first one post op. My fertile window doesn’t appear to have arrived yet but my cervix ticks all the right boxes for peak fertility. I’d gotten my hopes up for conceiving straight after the op but guessing I should not be disappointed if not. So worried that it will grow back before I have chance to conceive! Hope you catch soon, fingers crossed for you! X
