Hi all, had my big second lap on Tuesday, lots of endo excised, bowel finally separated after two years. Consultant said he got all of it.
I'm recovering at home now and obviously very sore, but one of the worst parts is my throat is so swollen from the tube during surgery and epiglottis (dangly bit at the back of the throat) is 3x size and making me gag whenever I talk, it's awful (though hubby is not complaining about me not talking, rude.). Anyone have advice how long this goes on for please?? x

Thanks for your post. So pleased to hear that your second lap was successful, and hope you are resting well at home now. It sounds like it was a complex surgery. Amazing that your consultant has removed all the endo!
Sorry about your throat symptoms, that's not what you need on top of recovering from everything else. It'd definitely be worth checking in with your ward nurse about this over the phone. There may be some advice they could give, or something they could prescribe, but best to speak to a health professional.

It took about 7 days for my sore throat to go back to normal. Stick to easy to swallow food and nothing spicy or steaming hot or you’ll make it worse. You can get a numbing spray from the chemist and if the swelling is still bothering you after 3 days I would consult a doctor to see if you need antibiotics, I did.
Hi Sue, thank so much, my husband looked down my throat yesterday and saw white spots so hospital have already had to put me on antibiotics but they're saying it's a coincidence that I have them just after the surgery lol thank you for letting numbing spray, will definitely give it a go! x
Hi G3miniStar I just checked my cupboard for the spray it’s called Difflam Spray it was recommended by the GP it’s effects aren’t long lasting but it’s nice to get some temporary relief.
Sorry love, I've had that happen a few years ago from a breathing tube (an anesthesiologist told me it was probably from the person doing the suction, not the tube itself. So I tell them now that I've had my throat bruised up bad before and ask them to be careful) Looking back at my pictures, I took a pic of my throat over 2 weeks after my procedure because it was bruised so bad and took so long to heal (if the time stamp on my photos is accurate.) Hopefully it heals up quicker for you! I think I used that numbing spray that you can get for sore throats, it helped a bit. I know how painful and annoying that is though, sorry! I hope you have a speedy recovery from your surgery and your poor throat!
Hi eunha, gosh that sounds awful! I'm sorry you had that! Interesting it's from the suction because my anaesthetist has denied it has anything to do with them x
Thank you 💕 no worries, it was a long time ago. Yeah, I didn't talk with the one who wrecked my throat, I don't even remember meeting them. But it was last year when I was going under anesthesia for another procedure that I asked my anesthesiologist, a kind older woman, if I could have a smaller size tube or something because I was worried about it hurting so much, and she told me that its not really the tube and said she would be gentle. And she was 😊 my throat barely hurt and felt fine the next day! Uhg 😒 that's so annoying they just denied it. If it has nothing to do with them then who did cause it?! Sorry
Exactly, they've said the tube goes nowhere near the uvula so it wouldn't be them, thinking back my throat when I looked still in hospital it was so swollen and had blood spots on it so it did look exactly like it would if it had been caught with the suction. But he also suggested I take a Covid test as could be that LOL! What?! x
