Hysterectomy date!

Hi!

I had the follow up from my lap a month ago this morning, and got the date for my hysterectomy - still 2 months to wait, but at least it's moving in the right direction!

The consultant seemed pretty confident that it will still be laparoscopic even though my uterus is, in their words, 'impressively large' due to the adenomyosis 😂 Which is a massive weight off my mind!

I have 2 questions really - the first is does anyone who has has a total laparoscopic hysterectomy give any ideas about what I might need to pack in my hospital bag (they've said it'll be a 2 night stay).

And the second question is that I've been advised to try and lose some weight before surgery. I've been trying for ages to lose some weight but for the last 2 years or so it's seemed impossible! No matter what I try, I stay the same.

I've blamed the mirena coil, my lifestyle, everything - but I'm not sure if it's just me doing something wrong or if my hormones are playing a part in it with the coil, adeno and endo! Does anyone have any miracle tips? Or at least set my mind at rest that I'm not going mad!

❤️

Hello that’s fabulous news for you, at least you now have a date and can start to prepare.Did they say if you were allowed a family member in with you at the hospital?

How long will your recovery time be?

As for weight loss, I never manage to loose a thing when on any kind of hormones and had the implant twice. Injection in my bum many years ago, the pill and of late decepeptyl.

How are you feeling now you have a date?

Xx

Hiya! They didn't mention whether I could have anyone with me - but it was explained that the hospital is looking to review its covid processes so I think it might be possible. Although, it's a 1-2 night stay in hospital, so I don't think anyone would be able to stay with me anyway.

I'm feeling OK now I've got a date - it feels a bit more real now. A few people have said to me that I'm bound to feel apprehensive as obviously my option to get pregnant is being taken away from me - but I honestly don't mind that at all so think that helps with everything!

I'm sure I'll have a wobble closer to the time, but at the moment I'm just looking forward to the possibility of this pain finally being behind me!

Hi EndoSuckss

That's great that you have the date for your hysterectomy, and that it will be laparoscopic! That's some new uterus terminology we are learning from your consultant 😂

We have some useful information about having a hysterectomy which you can read here: endometriosis-uk.org/sites/...

The specifics of what to take in your hospital bag will hopefully be filled in by other people who have had hysterectomies. If not, it could be worth giving the hospital a call to ask so that you can prepare in advance.

I understand how difficult it must be to just "lose weight", especially when dealing with endo/adeno which affect our hormones as you say, as well as our ability to exercise! I'm afraid that there isn't a miracle cure, but it could be worth asking your GP to refer you to a nutritionist who can put you on a medically-approved diet plan ahead of your surgery. Nutritionists are available via the NHS.

Wishing you the best! 😊

Ha ha, my consultant is lovely but very matter of fact (as most seem to be!) so her new uterus terminology seems to be very factual! 😂

Great news, my hysterectomy was the best thing I've had done, a huge relief in pain and no more horrendous periods. Practical things to take, phone charger and tablet and charger, headphones. Comfort wise, loose pj's and clothes to wear home. Disposable nickers, you will bleed after surgery. Lipbalm, face and handcream as hospital dries you out as its always to hot. Good luck and let's hope it will improve your life! Xxx

Hi, Great news about hysterectomy. I had mine done 6 weeks ago and feel so much better already.

I panicked so much about the op but it really wasn't what I expected. Your body copes so well afterwards. I was told I'd be in hospital for 2 night but I got sent home the following morning so that was good.

Just please rest for the first 2 weeks, the best thing I did was lay in bed and pretty much do nothing, wasn't easy with having 3 children but still managed it.

I just took an overnight bag with a couple of extra nighties. A wash bag and clothes to go home in. I also wasn't allowed any visitors and had to go in alone which wasn't great as I hadn't even been to the hospital before ( not my usual hospital)

I was told to lose a little weight but I just couldn't. The best thing I've ever done and will be going back to next week is slimming world. It changed my life for 3 years until I went back to eating far to much. Lol

Got 2 stone to lose so back on it next Tuesday.

Good luck with your op.

Hi Lovely,

Im having a hysterectomy in December after a horrid fight with endo for the last 15 years. Im hoping it will be laparoscopic but they have warned it may not be as my left ovary is caked. I don't have any advice but if you wanted to message feel free, we probably both have the same worries.

Take care xx
