I’m currently on the waiting list for a total laparoscopic hysterectomy on the NHS but have seen a private consultant because I suspect the NHS waiting time is going to be really long and I haven’t been given a date yet although I am on Prostap injections in preparation, but as I’m constantly bleeding i need something done asap.
The private consultant agreed that he could do it as early as next month but quoted me a price of £21.500.00 I couldn’t quite believe the amount, there’s no way I could afford it!! It was based on a 4-night stay in the Princess Grace hospital.
Just wanted to know if anyone has had a similar quote for a laparoscopic hysterectomy?
Many Thanks

I've been waiting 18months on the NHS. I'm a nurse and have chased it up numerous times. I still don't have a date for surgery and have not seen a consultant in over a year. I've been told £18,500 for total hysterectomy and bowel disc resection. I'm in the NorthWest. I hope you get sorted x
Wow ..18months that’s shocking and so is £18,500 this is all so wrong! I was hoping because they’ve started me on Prostrap to shrink the fibroids/endo and adenomyosis it wouldn’t be too long! You surely can’t be left without even seeing anyone its just not acceptable.I’m in London.. I really hope you get it all sorted out, the very best of luck and thank you for all your work as a nurse too.🫶
Yes, it was a bit of a shock for me to. I had same procedure plus endometriosis removal at same hospital, same price but for a two night stay. I had my surgery within a month of my consultation. I too was desperate, in pain constantly. I wish you well and hope things get sorted soon x
I had mine done at BMI Priory, £13000 + £300 for pre-op MRI, done by an endo specialist. Full vaginal hysterectomy including ovaries and excision. In Wednesday out Friday. Total wait time was 4 weeks from first consultation. I’d say it was about 8 weeks from me making first contact, 12 months tomorrow and best money ever spent.
Really glad to hear it worked out for you, I’m now looking at around to see if I can find something a bit more affordable £21.500.00 is just beyond me.
18 months is a bloody long time if I have to wait that long I will have a break down.
All this start for me last November so nearly a year. My first couple of consultants and scans where quite quick. I was told Zoladex for 3 mths then would get a date quick for the op. I went for my first Zoladex, signed my consent form and surprise surprise he said well you prob best having 6 injection and then ur date will come through. So I thought ok might be about 7-8 mths however my symptoms where so bad on the injections I stopped after 3 and omg now I think my insides are falling out, the bleeding is so heavy, clots the pain is horrendous too. And I look pregnant am so bloated, having so many bowel issues too.
My friend knows a someone who knows my consultant and trying to get me at least an idea of a date but no joy as yet and she has been trying a few weeks.
I can’t afford £100 never mind thousands, it’s so sad that we have to even think about paying.
I just pray every night that the letter will come through the door.
Hi I know it’s so stressful and scary when you bleed so heavily with clots, unless you’ve been through it people don’t understand how physically and mentally draining it is. I really hope you get a date soon and i really hope I get one too.
They said the same to me about the Prostap injections I get my 3rd next week and then we’ll see but I’m not holding my breath because they mentioned 6months too..
This all started in January for me where I ended up going to A&E with heavy bleeding and horrendous pain.
It’s just wrong that we have to find the money to go private when we’re led to believe we have a national health service!!!
Thanks…I agree…and it’s the same surgeon who did my myomectomy on the NHS seven years ago! Have a consultation with Nuffields at st Bart’s in two weeks..hoping for a better deal.🤞
Thanks for your reply, I literally had my total hysterectomy nine days ago, so recovering now.I had another consultation with a different surgeon and it turns out I had endo on only one ovary, the main problem for me was the adenomyosis and multiple fibroids had to have it abdominal though due to the size of my uterus!!It ended up costing £10,500 two nights at Nuffield St Bart’s.
