So after stage 4 endo diagnosis via a lap, Covid hit and my surgery and consultant appointments went on hold. 2 years later I’m finally having left ovary removal plus endo surrounding that ovary removed this week.
What should I expect post op, any advise from any one that has had similar surgery?

Expect the stuck gas that is normal after this type of op, always a benefit if you don’t get this. I didn’t but I had a drain in when I woke, it did sting coming out but like I said I didn’t get the gas pain. I had both ovaries(mostly) tubes and cysts removed plus endo but I was in for potential ovarian cancer. I was sore with some pain afterwards but similar to my previous periods. Don’t over do it otherwise stitches pull or you could experience more bleeding as I did. I was left with residual pain which I understand was due to removing the endo as it was quite deep. The reason I say mostly with my ovaries is a small part was left behind as it was attached to my bowel.
I already had a mirena coil and estrogen patches before the op, you might want something afterwards if you don’t already have this. I did notice increased dryness internally, basically going to the toilet is uncomfortable but I found a cure in the way of sea buckthorn oil supplements which I take daily. They are good for all dryness.
I’ve just had this op at the end of June, had my left ovary and tube removed plus a large cyst that was really stuck. Took 3 hours to remove the cyst alone. I also have stage 4.
Take windeze for gas pain. Be prepared to stay in overnight . It’s classed as a major op, even if done laparoscopically. I had 4 wounds with stitches which healed well. Ended up with a catheter overnight. Pain was quite high but they gave me morphine in hospital discharged the next day at night time.
Try to have someone with you for a while after, I struggled sitting up and going from lying to sitting. I slept on my back with a pillow propped against my left side. It stopped me rolling in my sleep. I used hot water bottle which helped with any pain.
Please don’t be like me, I thought I was doing great so started doing more around week 4 post op and really hurt myself. Try not to carry anything heavy for at least a month. Take it easy and rest. I felt so weird and out of it post op and that lasted about a week, where I was just really tired and a little dizzy. Also, I struggled driving at first as there was pain and discomfort- I could drive comfortably about 6 weeks post op.
I developed what felt like a burning, stabbing pain about 5 weeks post op and after looking online, it was nerve pain. Was prescribed amitriptyline and 3 weeks later that pain has gone thankfully!
I am finally starting to feel better with my tummy but not sure what’s happening to my hormones, as my periods are irregular. I’m just going to see what happens over the next few months and if it carries on I’ll go to GP. Think we are more at rush of earlier menopause if one ovary is removed, even though the right one should pick up the slack (so to speak)!
Any questions please ask! Happy to help. My bloating also took ages to go. Just starting to see a difference now.
I’m hoping they calm down and am presuming it’s just an imbalance of hormones that’s causing it? I’m going to monitor it then see if GP will check hormone levels - awful isn’t it.
Thanks for the advise and details, a few days now after op and normal bowel function has returned thankfully. I started my period 2 days after op so the right ovary must still be working!! They had to drain a large cyst from that one so I was concerned if I would even bleed a normal period after the op. Also having some nerve pain in left leg since op but pain killers seem to be controlling it. I will go and see dr if I need anything else. Thank you again for the advise. I feel much lighter and have lost a bit of weight since op, but that might be because of being careful what to eat and drinking loads of water. Thank you again for your advise, it was really valuable x
Oh great, glad it’s going well and the op was a success. Please ask if you have any other questions whilst you’re recovering. I’m now back at work and feeling a lot better. Bloating has gone and so has the pains. X
