Hi there, I found out this week I have a 6cm cyst on my right ovary due to endometriosis that I've had for over 12 yrs.
Has anyone had an ovary removed due to a cyst? If so what are the after effects?
Please let me know

Hi Luce - it depends what you mean by after effects. I had my left ovary removed after several cysts had pretty much destroyed it and my right ovary just took over the job. Curiously, the right ovary has been pretty quiet over the years as far as cysts go. As long as you've got one left you probably won't notice the difference
I had a 5cm minimum (that was the size at first lap 12 months previous to removal) and I didn't lose my ovary .. They did remove the fallopian tube on that side though but saved the ovary.
Thanks for your reply 😊 That's great that they saved the ovary hope that you've been ok with it
It was only back in December .. I was glad they saved the ovary if I'm honest. They are now very reluctant to remove ovaries unless they're no longer working as they've realised the benefit they do have to the entire body. I could at some point lose one or both if endo returns, but I know they only do it if completely necessary! Good luck with your op
I had 6-7cm chocolate cysts, one on each ovary. The left had other cysts and was leaking fluid so I agreed to have it removed. That was 4 months ago and I honestly can't tell it's gone. The right ovary took over right away and periods are regular.
