Anyone else had a Cyst come back so quick after surgery??

Im almost 12 weeks post op, Ended up in hospital over the weekend, a scan this morning showed a quiet big cyst on my right ovary.

I’m honestly so over it right now……Still in hospital on IV pain relief & waiting to see the consultant again tomorrow to decide what the next steps are!

This was my first surgery with diagnosis & now I just feel like ive taken 10 steps back….The pain is horrendous, I’ve been so unwell all week, I didn’t want to believe there was something wrong!

Omg, that’s scary, was the cyst removed from the same side? I have a cyst on my ovary but it’s a watch and wait as it’s a solid mass. Good luck with it all xx

Yup it was, seems to be my right ovary that gives me the most issues with cysts that are reoccurring.

I had one removed at surgery & now this one is back. Where kinda watching & waiting at the minuet.

I find it a little funny cause majority of my endometriosis was found on my left side and so little was found on my right. But the cysts always seem be on the right! Xx

I have had cysts after surgeries. This last year I had three surgeries to deal with various cysts and endo. 😔😪 That is probably not what you wanted to read, but it is real.

Last summer, after months of terrible period pain an ultrasound revealed a 5cm endometrioma on my left ovary. I had surgery in Sept to take out. My surgeon suspected Endometriosis but I was officially diagnosed from the laparoscopic surgery.

Literally during my next period I left the pain again. I went into the ER and the ultrasound revealed a hemorrhagic cyst on my left ovary. I was scheduled then to have my left ovary removed. Surgery in Nov. removed my left ovary. My doctor wanted me to try different hormones after that to help stop the endometriosis but the pills I was on made me sick and I had severe headaches. In January I was experiencing pain again. Ultrasound techs thought I still showed a small ovary on my left side. They thought it regrew. It was actually scar tissue with another small endometrioma. In Jan it was 1cm. Due to Covid surgery restrictions here I couldn’t get the surgery until June. In June I had a full/total hysterectomy (half laparoscopic/half vag).

The surgery was fine but there were complications that followed, but that is a complete other nightmare to post. I’m now experiencing menopause at 40.

I completely see where you are coming from. I went on anxiety/depression meds because of my frustration and anxiety over the repeated situations. Endometriosis is a frustrating condition and we each have our own battles with it. It is hard for family and friends to truly understand your situation. I find following these posts and reading stories helps the most because I know I’m not alone.

Wow thanks for sharing a little of your story sounds like you’ve been through a lot.

I did expect it to happen just didn’t expect it to happen so quick after surgery, I was really hoping for a pain free few months but ever since my surgery my symptoms seem to have gotten worse.

It’s absolutely draining & definitely frustrating. I agree with the family & friends not understanding. Everyone around me expected me to be better after surgery, that they now don’t accept I’m still unwell.

This is possibly the hardest journey I’ve ever been on, I’m really hoping at some point it will get slightly easier Xx

Unfortunately, the cysts can grow back really quickly. I just shared my story on another post the other day.

I had my first lap Oct20, removed endometrioma/chocolate cyst on left ovary (saved whatever part of that ovary possible), removed tubes & excised endometriosis everywhere + endometrial ablation. I felt great for the first 3 months. After that, some pain started back. But I was in emergency at 5mths post surgery with really terrible pain on my right side, couldn't stand up, throwing up on the floor, etc. Upon ultrasound, they saw a 5cm endometrioma had grown back on the right ovary. I was shocked that a cyst that large would grow back so quickly! I have a friend whose cyst returned quickly for her as well and had to have a 2nd surgery less than 1 year post surgery.

The surgeon recommended removing the cyst as soon as possible so basically 7mths after my first lap, I had another surgery. This time, given my age 49, I elected to have a full hysterectomy with ovaries removed. It was a difficult surgery where he suspected the cyst had ruptured and endo was everywhere, as if I hadn't had the 1st surgery at all. Recovery was a bit more difficult, but I felt better each day and by 2-4 weeks after, I was getting around fine. I was so scared for all of the side effects or for pain to return afterwards. But I am currently 3 months post surgery and feel great. Way better than the endo pain!

My surgeon had said that they usually recommend birth control, Mirena or Lupron, Zoladex to help prevent cysts from growing back. Due to breast cancer I couldn't do birth control and due to my age, I elected to do the hysterectomy+oophorectomy to hopefully prevent even more surgery/meds. My friend did Mirena and has been ok for several years. Depending on your age, you might want to consider something to help keep the cysts at bay. It's so hard and there aren't really any good options. Even now, who knows how long I will be pain free, but I'm doing the best I can. I hope things get better for you. xx

Hi thank you, yeah my consultant did recommend Zoladex as he did say he would have to do surgery early next year again. But he recommended it before we found out about this other cyst. I have had the Minera twice & it failed both times so not keen on getting it again. I have another scan next week to check on it as I’m having an awful lot of symptoms from it this time round. I seem to be living off antisickness at the minuet just to keep it at bay as the pain is so bad it’s making me sick.

Hoping they have a plan to do something about it soon. I didn’t expect it to effect me so bad X

Hey dear, I really feel very bad to hear your condition. But I advise you not to lose hope and stay positive. One of my friends was in the same boat as you. She had her journey in the Eastern Europe in Ukraine and now she has a very sweet baby of her own. Ovarian cysts do not usually prevent you getting pregnant, although they can sometimes make it harder to conceive. Most ovarian cysts are ‘functional’, simply occurring as a result of the normal ovulation cycle and going away on their own. However, in rare circumstances, some women may experience cyst-related problems. Functional cysts can rupture and cause bleeding, triggering terrible abdominal pain. In other cases, a different type of cyst can form – these are known as ‘pathological cysts’ and have several types. Dermoid cysts are those which contain unwanted tissue such as hair, skin or teeth and can grow rather large. Cystadenomas are those which develop from cells covering the outer layer of the ovary and can be filled with watery liquid or mucous. Both of these types may require surgical removal for ovarian cysts. This surgery should not, however, affect fertility, unless the doctor removes an ovary. This is rare though and only occurs where cysts are extremely large, complex or cancerous. It is highly recommended that surgery is carried out before pregnancy, so as to avoid complications. There are several things you can do to maximise your chances of becoming pregnant naturally: Ensure you follow a healthy, well-balanced diet. Carry out regular exercise – 3-5 times per week for 30 minutes. Stop smoking and cut down alcohol intake. Get at least 7 hours’ uninterrupted sleep per night. Take folic acid supplements daily.
