Diagnostic laparoscopy- recovery time

Hello everyone!

I am in the process of getting a diagnostic laparoscopy.

I have been called today and have been told that I will have the procedure in a couple of weeks.

I currently work at a school and need to let them know how long it’ll take to recover, however, I have read different things.

Ideally I’d love to go back 5 days after surgery. Is that realistic? Any advice?

Thanks!

Hiya, no formal experience here (yet!) but I've read between 3 days to a week in recovery is normal. So I'd tell your school a week maximum but hopefully sooner depending on how you feel? I hope it all goes well for you x

Thank you so much! I’m really hopeful it’ll be a week max but you just never know! Xx

Hi, I had a diagnostic laparoscopy many years ago and I’m sure I was back to normal after a week maximum (can’t remember exactly as it was a long time ago!).Two weeks ago I had a laparoscopy and endo was found. It was removed and other adhesions were dealt with along with a few other surgical bits. I thought I would be back to normal after a week max, however I am nearly at the two week mark and very bloated and sore still, I’ve been doing research and this seems to be normal.

I don’t want you to think you may have a longer recovery because if they are just diagnosing and not carrying out any surgical procedure I think you will be back to normal a lot sooner. Just wanted to give you my experience of it.

Hope all goes well for you, just make sure you rest afterwards!

Hi Molly82! Apologies for the delay in reply and thank you so much for your insight! It’s useful to know how it can vary. Do you have any tips in terms of recovery? I hope you’re feeling better now! Xxx

Hi, I would say just don’t expect too much and take a day at a time. Rest when your body tells you to and have some peppermint tea to hand!!Hope it goes well x

Hi Orange244, great that you have a date. Took me 2 weeks after diagnostic lap with coil fitted at the same time.I was surprised by how tired and weak I felt after the first week. Its possible you will only need a week, but my advice would be expect a bit longer, that way you will be pleasantly surprised rather than feeling a bit down of your not back to "normal" after a week.

Good luck!

Hi AtomicHair, thank you so much for your reply! It’s always so useful knowing what others have been through. Definitely think I will bear that in mind! Really hope it’s a week but you’re right always best to give myself longer in order not to feel disappointed! Xxx

I was given a fit note for two weeks for all three of my laps, I was able to work from home after one week but didn’t really want to drive to site until two weeks later x
