Problems post hysterectomy

Hi

I had a hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. I was advised by the consultant that between 10 and 14 days I may experience a ‘gush’ of bleeding/fluids and this was normal. My pain has been mild with the help of painkillers but since Monday (12 days post op) this has got worse and there has been more bleeding but not what I would describe as a ‘gush’. The pain is now like the pains I suffered pre op and pre prostap injections, I’d be inclined to say worse but I suspect that’s just because I forgot how bad it got 6 months ago.

I have had issues with constipation due to the painkillers I have been given (codeine and morphine) and pain before Monday always felt more like needing the loo than period pain. I stopped the painkillers Thursday and Friday last week but had to start taking them again when the pain started affecting my moods. I have not been to the toilet since Friday but have not had the needing the toilet pains.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced any of this and/or can share their ‘gush’ experience so that I have more of an idea as to whether this is what I’m going through. I have looked online and there is very little information. I am going to contact the consultant/my GP I just wanted to hear of any other experiences, my gp wasn’t very helpful when I contacted them about the painkillers and my concerns about the strength of them. This site has given me more information over the last few months than any doctor or google search and it’s helped me get to the point I’m at today so I’m grateful for all the information everyone shares on here.

Thanks

Hello Jackiep1525I'm sorry to see that you are suffering quite a bit of pain following your hysterectomy, i think it would be a good idea to contact your consultant or your GP if the pain is continuing to get worse. If you are uncomfortable because you are constipated then your doctor should be able to prescribe a laxative for you, this may help with the pain. We have a publication about having a hysterectomy, some of the information may be helpful endometriosis-uk.org/sites/....

I hope you are able to get some help or answers from you doctor soon

Best wishes
